Overview



About the Role - We're seeking an experienced Data Science Tech Lead Manager to join our team and drive strategy across Growth and Marketing through data and analysis. Instacart’s growth data science team operates as thought leaders and problem solvers in tandem with the Growth and Marketing orgs, supporting our broader mission to give everyone access to the food they love. We are responsible for understanding the end-to-end scope of growth, including how marketing shapes and impacts customer behavior both today and in the long run, the efficiency and performance of any marketing technology we utilize, and what the highest ROI investments are in both marketing and marketing technology. Our team uses data and analysis to power the growth engine of the company. 



About the Team - In this role, you'll work closely with cross-functional partners such as product, engineering, and marketing teams to define marketing incrementality, design experimentation and analysis frameworks to help deepen our understanding of marketing investment efficiency and customers journeys,. You will identify product and marketing opportunities and drive efforts to determine and implement key metrics, and the levers to drive business impact and build scalable data solutions.

In this role, you will build and lead a high-performing team of data scientistsYou will be responsible for the health of your teams' data and analysis - its completeness, rigor and qualityYou and your team will have a high impact on your stakeholder teams’ products and operations, and will hold yourselves accountable to measurable improvements in business outcomesYou and your team will design rigorous experiments and interpret results to draw detailed and actionable conclusionsYou and your team will develop statistical models to extract trends, measure results, and predict future performance of our productYou and your team will enable objective decision making across the company by democratizing data through dashboards and other analytical toolsYou and your team will use expertise in causal inference, machine learning, complex systems modeling, behavioral decision theory etc. to shape the future of InstacartYou and your team will present findings in a compelling way to influence Instacart’s leadership at the highest level



About You

Minimum Qualifications

  • 8+ years experience working in a quantitative role at a product company or a research organization, including experience leading end-to-end technical projects and mentoring junior data scientists
  • Ability to run rigorous experiments and come up with scientifically sound recommendations
  • Ability to write complex, efficient, and eloquent SQL queries to extract dataA desire to build and improve consumer software products
  • Ability to translate business needs into analytical frameworks
  • Eagerness to learn, flexibility to pivot when needed, savviness to navigate and thrive in a dynamic environment, and a growth mindset needed to build a successful team and company


Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience directly managing a team of data scientists
  • Experience leading teams working on growth, marketing channels, promotions, incentives, CRM
  • Familiarity with marketing attribution, incremental methodologies, and marketing mix models
  • Experience working on gig economy issues or multi-sided marketplaces
