Robotics will have a massive positive impact on the world economy and global human productivity over the coming decade. At Foxglove, we're excited for this future, and we're building powerful open source and commercial tools to accelerate it.

We're an experienced team of independent thinkers, with a passion for creating high quality products. We're looking for self-motivated and fast-learning individuals to join our mission.

About the role

We’re looking for a Staff Product Designer to join the Foxglove design team. In this role, you will collaborate closely with senior leaders, engineers, and product managers to streamline and scale our web and desktop applications while enhancing the user experience for our customers.

You will engage in a full range of product design activities, including UX discovery, interaction design, visual design, and prototyping. Additionally, you will gain a deep understanding of embodied AI, which encompasses machine learning, computer vision, robot learning, and language models. You will also advocate for our core users—software engineers who are building autonomous vehicles and robots that can perceive, act, and collaborate effectively. Other responsibilities include:

  • Design the end-to-end user experience for tools used by robotics engineers to develop and test robots at scale.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the people, workflows, and tools that robotics engineers rely on to accelerate development and testing.
  • Leverage usability insights to guide your involvement across a broad solution space.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Engineers, and Technical Program Managers to define requirements and translate them into effective solutions.
  • Lead the design process to plan, scope, define, and deliver high-quality, responsive interfaces that meet accessibility guidelines.
  • Build prototypes to envision potential solutions and gather feedback on design iterations.
  • Partner with engineers to ensure your solutions are feasible and shipped with high quality.
  • Proactively gather feedback to identify strategic gaps and opportunities for improving the user experience through continuous discovery, validating emerging concepts, and evaluating existing solutions.
  • Contribute to our design system to create consistent user experiences and streamline the development process across our product.

Location

For this position, we're looking for someone based in North America.

What we're looking for

  • 6+ years of product design experience.
  • A portfolio showcasing high-quality, thoughtful UI and UX work.
  • Proficiency in Figma and related digital design and prototyping software.
  • Experience using qualitative and quantitative data to inform design decisions.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with people from various disciplines and levels.
  • Comfort in conducting stakeholder interviews and integrating findings into final designs.
  • Skill in creating elegant visual designs with thoughtful composition.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex ideas clearly to the team and stakeholders.
  • Proven experience working with engineering teams to build assets, refine user experiences, and produce high-quality products.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver end-to-end applications and software within a team environment, from brief to shipping.

Bonus points

  • Experience working on complex interactive systems or data analytics products.
  • Proven ability to establish metrics for challenging and novel problems.
  • Willingness to travel to robotics conferences to learn from our customers. In 2024, our team attended conferences in Denmark, Japan, and the Bay Area. We also hosted our own conference, called Actuate, in San Francisco.

What we offer

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
