Job Overview:

The Hands-on IT Manager will be responsible for managing the day-to-day IT operations while also being actively involved in the hands-on technical management of IT systems and projects. This role requires a combination of strong leadership, technical skills, and the ability to collaborate across departments. The IT Manager will oversee IT staff, infrastructure, and services, ensuring systems are running smoothly, secure, and optimized for performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership & Mentorship:
    • Lead, mentor, and support the IT team, providing both strategic direction and hands-on guidance.
    • Oversee the development of team members through training and performance reviews.
    • Actively participate in recruitment and staffing efforts to expand the IT team.
       
  • Hands-on Technical Support:
    • Actively participate in system troubleshooting, configuration, and maintenance, assisting with complex issues that require senior-level expertise.
    • Support end-users, helping resolve hardware, software, and network issues across the organization.
    • Handle escalated issues from the IT support team, ensuring timely resolution.
       
  • Infrastructure Management:
    • Manage the organization’s IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, data centers, and cloud environments.
    • Lead the implementation, maintenance, and optimization of IT systems, applications, and network infrastructure.
    • Collaborate with other departments to ensure the IT environment supports business operations effectively.
       
  • Cybersecurity & Risk Management:
    • Implement and manage security measures to protect the organization’s data and IT assets.
    • Monitor the health of the IT systems and take corrective actions when necessary to prevent outages and security breaches.
    • Develop and enforce security policies, procedures, and access controls to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.
       
  • Project Management & Implementation:
    • Manage IT projects, from initiation to completion, ensuring on-time delivery and meeting business requirements.
    • Work closely with other departments to assess needs and prioritize technology initiatives.
    • Oversee system upgrades, software deployments, and IT-related implementations.
       
  • Budgeting and Resource Management:
    • Work with senior management to manage and optimize the IT budget, ensuring cost-effective spending on hardware, software, and services.
    • Track IT assets, licenses, and software, ensuring proper inventory management.
       
  • Disaster Recovery & Backup Planning:
    • Lead the development and implementation of disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
    • Ensure data backups are properly managed and tested for recovery in case of system failure or data loss.
       
  • Vendor and Partner Management:
    • Manage relationships with external vendors and service providers, ensuring service level agreements (SLAs) are met.
    • Negotiate contracts and collaborate with vendors to ensure the best services and pricing.
       
  • Documentation & Reporting:
    • Create and maintain documentation for systems, processes, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
    • Report on system performance, project status, and team productivity to senior management.
    • Maintain a knowledge base to allow staff to resolve issues independently.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
       
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 15 plus  years of experience in IT management, with at least 10 plus years in a hands-on technical role.
    • Extensive experience in managing IT infrastructure, networks, and systems.
    • Experience in managing a team of IT professionals and leading IT projects.
       
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong experience with networking, server management (Windows, Linux, etc.), and virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
    • Expertise in managing cloud environments (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
    • Proficiency in cybersecurity protocols and best practices.
    • Hands-on experience with IT monitoring tools, backup solutions, and IT support management platforms.
    • Familiarity with database management, storage systems, and disaster recovery solutions.
       
  • Leadership Skills:
    • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
    • Problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
    • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects and priorities effectively.

The base salary range for this role is $100,700 to $151,100 . This base salary range represents the low and high end of the base salary range for this position. Actual base salary offered will vary based on various factors including but not limited to location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and performance.
