About the Role
For this job we are currently only hiring candidates based in the United States .
Ontra is seeking a Senior Data Analyst reporting to our Manager, Data Analytics on the Research & Development team.
The role is a great opportunity for someone looking to lead analytics projects and strategy to support our largest product, Contract Automation.
The Senior Data Analyst will work closely with multiple product stakeholders to generate business impact and drive the product roadmap with data insights. When executing on these projects, the Senior Data Analyst will have the opportunity to be hands-on and a technical lead: both contributing directly and guiding other Data Analysts' efforts to uncover valuable insights from our legal data sets to inform product development and business strategy. As you combine your data expertise with growing knowledge of Ontra's products and business, you also will lead efforts to define and track metrics that drive business improvements.
This is a fast-paced environment, and we value direction over perfection. If you are ready to dive into data to inform product decisions, we'd love to get to know you!
What You'll Do

  • Provide analytics expertise: Build thorough understanding of Ontra's datasets and business, and develop metrics, measurement strategies, and insights that inform product and business needs
  • Influence product strategy: Use data to help the product team set goals, measure progress, and uncover new opportunities. Build data foundations and influence data collection strategy for new features where the data does not yet exist
  • Partner and enable: Partner with product and business leaders to define measurable goals for success and create mechanisms to measure them. Train these stakeholders to build and explore in our BI tool, Sigma, to increase their confidence in self-serve analytics
  • Serve as a subject-matter expert: Influence stakeholders to use data in their decision making, and strengthen the data-driven culture across Ontra. Represent data requirements and best practices in conversations with Product, Engineering, and Design.
  • Be a technical mentor: Provide technical leadership to junior Data Analysts, acting as a mentor and setting new standards for the team

What You'll Bring

  • Expertise in exploratory data analysis: 5+ years experience manipulating data sets, navigating ambiguity, creating data visualizations, and delivering insights that inform business decision-making and impact key metrics
  • Fluency in SQL: can construct complex joins, filters, window functions, and aggregations to appropriately answer questions of the data; can advise on how data should be modeled to best support this type of analysis
  • Advanced knowledge in at least one of the following: scripting for analysis (Python, R), data modeling (dbt), A/B testing
  • Effective communication: ability to effectively collaborate with technical and non-technical leaders across the organization in all formats (live and asynchronous), influencing stakeholders to adopt a data-driven mindset
  • Detail-oriented mindset: A strong attention to detail and a well-reasoned sense of skepticism toward the results of analyses
