The Waymo Safety team works to promote and help to continuously improve the safety of Waymo's fully autonomous driving technology. Our experts develop safety goals and strategies, and conduct safety engineering analyses to ensure safety is being considered throughout the design and development of our vehicles. The team develops and promotes safety strategies and policies for autonomous vehicles for its work with regulatory authorities, lawmakers, law enforcement and public and non-profit organizations. Our Safety Team also helps advise on compliance with applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations.

In this remote role, you will report into our Head of Resilience and Incident Management


You will:

  • Take a leadership role on Waymo's Incident Response Team (IRT) to maintain the highest level of incident management by creating processes that enable efficient and effective communication and decision making.
  • Manage and expand Waymo's Incident Commander program, which leads Waymo's response to incidents and guarantees a consistent and effective cross-functional response.
  • Spearhead cross-functional alignment on the company's planned responses to a range of potential event types and circumstances. Ensure consistent implementation of these plans throughout Waymo's incident response procedures.
  • Oversee end-to-end incident lifecycle continuity from initial event detection through risk mitigation, event resolution, and post-event review.
  • Travel up to 10% of the time or as business demands.

You have:

  • Operational experience / working with operations teams in high impact positions
  • Incident management experience through directly managing off-nominal events and incidents
  • Demonstrated ability to develop a strategic roadmap out of a large, unstructured space
  • Ability to maintain calm and function efficiently in high-pressure situations
  • 5+ years of project or product management experience
  • Demonstrated experience briefing executives on complex and evolving projects and incidents

We prefer:

  • Legal / public policy experience
  • Advanced degree in a relevant field, e.g. emergency management, human factors, operations management, or law school
  • Dynamic experience managing crisis and incident response as an Incident Commander
  • Experience interacting with and/or reporting to regulatory agencies
  • Automotive, maritime, or aviation experience

The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for the role location or, if the role can be performed remote, the specific salary range for your preferred location, during the hiring process. 

Waymo employees are also eligible to participate in Waymo’s discretionary annual bonus program, equity incentive plan, and generous Company benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements.

$190,000$241,000 USD
