Job Responsibilities and Requirements

The Product Director has accountability for the management and growth of the company’s Life and Disability product offerings, along with overseeing third party partnerships as it relates to the Value-Added Services portfolio. Reporting to the Head of Product, this position will provide leadership and direction on complex product development and management initiatives. The Product Director will lead the market release of product enhancements and manage the product lifecycle to ensure group products/services are market competitive and meet customer needs. The role is a highly visible position that offers the opportunity for impact and exposure. This position is expected to lead through influence a diverse group of business partners including, but not limited to, Actuarial, Underwriting, Sales & Customer Solutions, Compliance, Claims, Operations, Marketing Communications, IT and Finance professionals.

Product Strategy, Development and Management

  • Drives the execution of the strategic vision and development pipeline for their applicable products and/or capabilities.

  • Owns recommendations, development, profitable design, marketing, integration, and implementation of new or existing market programs, products, and product options.

  • Manages top and bottom line for their product offerings, including identifying strategic opportunities.

  • Provides ongoing market assessments which capture internal and external dynamics and recommends courses of action supported by Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA) and strategic rationale.

  • Works with internal/external parties to ensure that the portfolio is compliant with regulations.

  • Oversee all go-to-market deliverables when launching a new product or enhancing an existing offering, which includes internal and external communication, training, and broker/client education.

Relationship Management

  • Development and articulation of the product strategy and vision as well as promote and create awareness of product-related topics within the organization.

  • Presents to field management, brokers, and industry groups.

  • Works in partnership with functional leaders to:

    • Coordinate implementation of new product strategies.

    • Enhance existing products.

    • Ensure offering is functioning as designed; identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

    • Implement marketing plans that ensure long-range growth and financial profitability.

    • Develop a best-in-class product portfolio that enables us to win in the marketplace.

    • Solve customer-specific requests.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and/or Related Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business management, insurance, or related field.

  • Minimum of 5+ years in the group insurance/employee benefits industry.

  • Experience bringing a product, service, or capability from ideation to market launch.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience, ideally in a product management role, or possibly in a sales, underwriting, claims, or service role that works across multiple functions.

  • Specific product and market knowledge and experience are strongly preferred. Must understand the drivers of profitable growth, how the products are serviced, distribution channels and customers.

  • Aptitude for financial evaluation of business performance; knowledge of financial and accounting statements.

  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment on multiple projects, tasks, or assignments.

  • Superior communication skills, both oral & written. Ability to tailor presentations and material to a wide variety of audiences.

  • Motivated self-starter with demonstrated initiative; ability to work independently with minimal direction.

  • Ability to deal confidently with all levels of the organization, including senior executives in the Home Office, field partners and customers.

Ability to Travel: Up to 25%


 

The expected hiring range for this position is $114,020.00 - $164,370.00 annually. This expected hiring range covers only base pay and excludes any other compensation components such as commissions or incentive awards. The successful candidate’s starting base pay will be based on several factors including work location, job-related skills, experience, qualifications, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Work location may be flexible if approved by the Company.
