The Principal Experience Designer is a key member of the Experience Design and Research (XDR) team at Aledade. Our multidisciplinary XDR team accelerates the ability of primary care practices to improve health outcomes for their patients by equipping them with thoughtfully crafted technology. We ensure that the design of Aledade products & services consider the needs of clinicians, practice staff, internal Aledade teams, and patients, fitting within their existing environments and workflows. As a Principal Experience Designer, you will play a critical role in crafting experiences for our practices and their patients that simplify the inherent complexity of value-based care. Your work will be guided by our core values of community, joy, evidence-based experiences, inclusive design, sustainability, and exploration.

As a Principal Experience Designer, you will focus on how broad offerings or complex arrangements of features, products, and services roll up into the overall product experience. Your work guides a large cross-disciplinary team to influence the decisions of a product area.

This is an Individual Contributor role where you will be expected to help coordinate and guide the work of more junior designers. You will play a key role in helping to scale and operate the design team in addition to leveraging your design craft. This role will not have people management duties but has the potential to do so in the future.

Primary Duties:

  • Drive design for a group of designers that spans multiple sub-teams, focused on interconnected points between products, or novel approaches to customer interaction with our products/services.
  • Partner with other Design, Product, and Technical leads to anticipate customer challenges that need to be addressed through design, skillfully building consensus and engaging in dialogue to prioritize work in your area. Negotiate design trade-offs with cross functional leads so that customer impact can be considered alongside business and technical implications.
  • Participate in driving team-wide experience metrics, helping to distill what is important for Design, Product, and other partner teams to understand. You  may curate dashboards, ad-hoc data reports, or visualizations of metrics to help teams align around problem and solution opportunities.
  • Articulate a design vision beyond the roadmap, anticipating areas of opportunity and overlap grounded in your deep domain and customer expertise. The articulation is actionable and results in teams taking action.
  • Serve as a point of contact and escalation for feedback between teams, ensuring adequate cadence, scope, coverage, and outcomes. You proactively identify gaps and areas of friction and work to address them.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of professional experience in product and interaction design – designing and prototyping end-to-end digital experiences with cross-functional teams working in iterative environments.
  • Demonstrated experience and skill in leading, facilitating, & executing complex, iterative design workstreams that span digital and non-digital touchpoints with diverse stakeholders of varying degrees of familiarity with design.
  • Proven experience crafting and managing a roadmap of design projects across multiple, related domains, managing multiple projects simultaneously and meeting deadlines effectively.
  • Able to coordinate the work of more junior designers, helping them develop while still meeting design timelines.
  • Experience facilitating design critiques and design review forums for your and other designers’ work.
  • Superb communication skills and proven storytelling ability – can clearly articulate the what, why, and how of their approaches and tailor a message to the audience.
  • Fluency and skill with a variety of design related tools (e.g., Figma, Miro, etc.)

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities:

  • Experience leading the delivery of design for software in-house, including usage of engineering ticketing systems such as Jira.
  • Experience contributing to and/or using design system components.
  • Excellent facilitation and negotiation skills, especially in an environment working alongside engineers and product managers.
  • Experience working in complex and or highly regulated industries such as healthcare.
  • Service design experience that includes mapping, understanding, and improving complex internal and external user journeys.
  • Exposure to or experience with gathering qualitative feedback on designs.
  • Experience facilitating workshops or design sprints.
  • Experience with common product prioritization and project management methods.

Who We Are:

Aledade, a public benefit corporation, exists to empower the most transformational part of our health care landscape - independent primary care. We were founded in 2014, and since then, we've become the largest network of independent primary care in the country - helping practices, health centers and clinics deliver better care to their patients and thrive in value-based care. Additionally, by creating value-based contracts across a wide variety of health plans, we aim to flip the script on the traditional fee-for-service model. Our work strengthens continuity of care, aligns incentives and ensures primary care physicians are paid for what they do best - keeping patients healthy. If you want to help create a health care system that is good for patients, good for practices and good for society - and if you're eager to join a collaborative, inclusive and remote-first culture - you've come to the right place.

What Does This Mean for You?

At Aledade, you will be part of a creative culture that is driven by a passion for tackling complex issues with respect, open-mindedness and a desire to learn. You will collaborate with team members who bring a wide range of experiences, interests, backgrounds, beliefs and achievements to their work - and who are all united by a shared passion for public health and a commitment to the Aledade mission.

In addition to time off to support work-life balance and enjoyment, we offer the following comprehensive benefits package designed for the overall well-being of our team members:

Flexible work schedules and the ability to work remotely are available for many roles

Health, dental and vision insurance paid up to 80% for employees, dependents and domestic partners

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
