This position is eligible for hybrid work format, a combination of on-site and remote work environments.
Through research programs funded by science and technology R&D organizations within the U.S. Department of Defense, the research and development team in FAST Labs™ collaborate across the enterprise. On this team, you'll have the opportunity to create and develop advanced technology capabilities in the areas of advanced electronics, autonomy, cyber, electronic warfare, and sensors and processing.

The FAST Labs business area is the innovative research and development engine within the Electronic Systems Sector of BAE Systems. As a Senior Software Engineer in FAST Labs Engineering you might:

  • Participate in the evaluation and design of complex and innovative software architectures.
  • Serve as a scrum master.
  • Mentor and train junior staff in software engineering industry best practices and process.
  • Participate in external project interactions with customers to understand their requirements and guide development efforts to meet their needs.
  • Design, write, test, integrate, and debug software on assigned programs. Typically in C++ but in other languages as well.

Qualified candidates will also possess knowledge of software architectures, software industry best practices, and emerging software technologies. As a member of the Software Engineering Directorate, you will have opportunities to continue developing strong and increasingly complex software skills and stay current in the software discipline.

This position may require occasional U.S. domestic travel to support integration and test events.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical area with 4+ years professional SW development experience.
  • Active Top Secret DoD clearance
  • Strong experience with object-oriented C++ (11 or later)
  • Strong experience developing for and operating in a Linux Environment
  • Experience with containerization (e.g. Docker) and developing software in containerized environments.
  • Experience developing applications that cover several of: distributed, multi-threaded, real time, embedded, low latency, DSP, device control, or military systems.


Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Software architecture experience.
  • Experience developing algorithms in MATLAB
  • General Purpose Graphical Processing Unit (GPU) OPENCL or CUDA development.
  • Cloud Native Technologies experience (e.g. Kubernetes, Harbor, Helm, etc.)
  • RF, Radar, EO/IR, Electronic Warfare, or Software Defined Radio experience.


Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $92290 - $156860
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
