Engineering Manager - Compute Platform

Cloudflare is building a brand new way of running globally distributed compute for both CPU and GPU workloads, and we need a strong Engineering Manager to lead this effort. Our edge network spans the world and lets us treat the entire network as a compute resource to build ultra-low latency applications. This is the core of how we ship great new products every year - and this team is taking this way of building, and growing it into a platform of its own with both internal and external use cases.
This tea works on some of the most challenging compute problems at Cloudflare - secure sandboxing of GPU and AI workloads, high throughput networking with VMMs, intelligent scheduling of compute workloads across Cloudflare's network, and building distributed, fault-tolerant control plane for the platform.

• You will be leading a strong, tenured engineering team adept at solving everything from low level compute challenges, such as virtual machines, to advanced distributed systems problems like global workload scheduling. This is a role where being close to the details matters - you will both help the people on your team grow, plan and excel, and be hands on yourself, working directly with domain experts at Cloudflare in networking, compute, scheduling and more.
• You will work with an experienced Product Manager to define engineering and product roadmaps and build the products you believe in.
• You will be given the flexibility to make the team your own with ample opportunity for growth as more applications for compute on Cloudflare's edge become clear. You will become part of a great team of supportive colleagues solving engaging and thrilling challenges.

You should have experience leading a team of skilled engineers to define roadmaps and solve customer problems.
You should have a strong technical background with understanding of linux and distributed system problems and common solutions.

• Linux workload isolation technologies such as LXC or gVisor and VMMs such as Firecracker, Cloud-Hypervisor, QEMU
• Programming systems in Golang, Typescript, Rust, SQL
• Serverless technologies such as Cloudflare Workers
• Container orchestration systems such as Hashicorp Nomad, Kubernetes or Marathon

• Managing people, delivering effective feedback, and growing your team's capacity and competencies
• Building an open and inclusive team culture and the policies and systems needed to support it
• Leading projects which span multiple teams outside of your own, and helping others understand the "why" behind the work that needs to get done

Compensation may be adjusted depending on work location.

• For Colorado-based hires: Estimated annual salary of $140,000 - $172,000
• For New York City, Washington, and California (excluding Bay Area) based hires: Estimated annual salary of $158,000 - $193,000
• For Bay Area-based hires: Estimated annual salary of $166,000 - $202,000

This role is eligible to participate in Cloudflare's equity plan.
