These Tech Companies Announced New Seattle Offices in 2022

Homegrown startups and newcomers are establishing physical offices for local tech talent.

While some tech companies have opted to continue working remotely, others are pushing forward with hybrid models and are in the market for new offices to house their employees. Seattle is a major destination for tech companies looking for a larger space or those looking to establish a presence in the region.

At least five tech companies have opened new offices in Seattle this year. Read on to learn more about these companies growing their presence in Emerald City.

 

DoorDash, an on-demand delivery platform headquartered in San Francisco, opened a 30,440-square-foot office in the 2+U building in downtown Seattle. The office will house over 100 employees. According to a blog post, DoorDash is currently hiring across all departments for remote and in-person roles in Seattle.

 

 In October, Walmart leased a 20,000-square-foot office in Bellevue to grow its 200-person local tech team. The retail giant stated that its primary focus for the new office was to recruit software engineers. It also announced that it was growing its tech teams in Atlanta

 

SageView is a California-based wealth management and retirement planning firm. In June, it announced that it would open a Seattle office to continue expanding its presence in the Pacific Northwest. The new office followed a $900 million acquisition and new executive appointments.

 

California-based battery developer Sila recently told Seattle Inno that will open a new office in Moses Lake after it purchased a more than 600,000-square-foot facility in the area. The company makes silicon-powered batteries and is relocating to the area to take advantage of the region’s manufacturing workforce. Set to open in 2023, the new facility is also located close to Washington State University, a major source of engineering talent. 

 

In early May, Google cut the ribbon to a new office in Kirkland, marking the first phase of its Kirkland Urban campus. At the opening, Google’s parent company Alphabet Inc. announced that over the next couple of years it will invest $100 million in the state to support new hires. It also announced that its headcount in Washington State sits at around 7,200 employees. 

 

Honorable Mention:

Video game developer Riot Games announced in late 2021 that it will expand its presence in the gaming capital of the U.S. — Seattle. The Los Angeles-based company told the Puget Sound Business Journal that it would develop a campus on Mercer Island. According to the company, the campus is set to open in 2023 and will house 400 employees. Riot currently has an office in Bellevue but this space is not large enough to hold the growing company.
