We're looking for an iOS Engineer to join the Media Delivery Platform team! We're a highly collaborative team that builds an end-to-end media platform, including encoding, transcoding, editing, uploading, ingestion, storage, media life cycle management, replication, delivery and playback. This is an unique opportunity to own one of our most critical platforms and make impacts to hundreds of millions of Snapchatters.
You'll work on state of art video technologies, lead skillful engineers with video expertises, and build a video platform that powers critical Snap user experiences. If you're passionate about video technologies and eager to make an impact, we'd love to have you on our team.
What you'll do:

  • Drive multi-year technical strategies for Snap's video player roadmap through direct implementation and broad technical influence.
  • Own outcomes in some of our most ambiguous and technically challenging areas to revamp video stacks.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and partner teams to implement best-in-class video technologies for Snapchatters.
  • Strongly influence the team's roadmap, overall output, and ensure we're focused on the customer experience.
  • Model lead-by-example excellence; consistently provide high-quality code reviews, evaluate technical tradeoffs, be a bar-raiser across multiple technical venues, and mentor junior engineers.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proven understanding of Swift, Objective-C, and processes which run "under the hood"
  • Proficiency with multithreading and performance optimization techniques for mobile applications
  • Strong CS fundamentals (algorithms and data structures) and problem-solving skills


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in technical field such as computer science, mathematics, statistics or equivalent years of experience
  • 11+ years of experience in developing mobile applications for the iOS environment


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Deep knowledge of video playback frameworks such as AVFoundation, Core Media, and VideoToolbox and open source platforms such as VLC/FFMpeg/ExoPlayer.
  • Experience with image rendering and processing using OpenGL/Metal.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of various media formats (e.g., MP4, MOV, HEVC), codecs, and streaming protocols such as HLS (HTTP Live Streaming) and MPEG-DASH.
  • Experience in developing and optimizing mobile video players.
  • Experience with C/C++ with media related production development.

Compensation
In the United States, work locations are assigned a pay zone which determines the salary range for the position. The successful candidate's starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. The starting pay may be negotiable within the salary range for the position. These pay zones may be modified in the future.
Zone A (CA, WA, NYC) :
The base salary range for this position is $222,000-$333,000 annually.
Zone B :
The base salary range for this position is $211,000-$316,000 annually.
Zone C :
The base salary range for this position is $189,000-$283,000 annually.
This position is eligible for equity in the form of RSUs.
