Airbnb was born in 2007 when two hosts welcomed three guests to their San Francisco home, and has since grown to over 5 million hosts who have welcomed over 2 billion guest arrivals in almost every country across the globe. Every day, hosts offer unique stays and experiences that make it possible for guests to connect with communities in a more authentic way.

The Community You Will Join:

The Quality Engineering team helps Airbnb build high-quality software efficiently. We enable Airbnb engineers to build highly testable systems. We own and continuously improve product test cases, functional coverage, shift-left quality mentality, and end to end test automation. We are the champions for quality and a trusted partner for our peer organizations.

The Difference You Will Make:

As a Staff QA Program Lead, you are responsible for managing a vendor team that implements large-scale programs and projects within the Quality Engineering (QE) organization. You will work cross-functionally to improve the quality of our software, and do so with clear communication, efficient program planning, and deep focus on overall project execution. You’ll play a critical role in ensuring that Airbnb delivers high quality products.

A Typical Day:

  • Drive the adoption of automated testing as a key strategic lever for ensuring efficient and effective testing.
  • Clearly communicate program status and progress to large groups of project stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Effectively manage change by influencing and communicating with key stakeholders. Anticipate risks associated with change management, and ensure creative and effective mitigations are available.
  • In collaboration with Product teams, identify opportunities and advocate for product improvements and/or tools that support the team’s strategy and the needs of the customer.
  • Advocate for the advancement of Agile testing concepts to become realities in both QE and Engineering.
  • Work to quickly become well-versed in the engineering teams product/domain space.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with 3rd party vendors and QE counterparts.
  • Regularly assess project risks and opportunities. Leverage best practices and continually drive process improvements, but work creatively to drive execution and simplification.

Your Expertise:

  • 10+ years of program management experience, with a proven track record of Quality Assurance/Quality Engineering experience as both a test planner and a test executor.
  • Experience advancing test automation (Unit, Integration, End to End).
  • Hands-on experience driving Agile practices and a shift-left mentality to enable Engineering teams to deliver high-quality software.
  • Demonstrable experience with being embedded on an Agile Scrum team.
  • Strong Vendor Worker leadership skills, including acquiring talent, performance management, and building a strong, happy team.
  • Proactive communication and interpersonal skills; strong stakeholder management.
  • Comfortable in a fast paced environment, managing ambiguity and uncertainty.
  • Ability to anticipate risks & issues and proactively mitigate them.
  • Experience using collaborative project management tools and processes (e.g. JIRA, Asana, Smartsheets, Google docs, scrum, agile).
  • Passion for building and delivering high quality software.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
