Core Analytics is a cross-functional organization that provides analytics, business insights and data products across the whole of Datadog. In particular, its data-scientists work hand in hand with business teams to build ML driven insights. We tackle projects such as predicting customers propensity to convert and try out our products, or identifying and alerting on growth opportunities from past user behaviour.

The Staff Data Scientist of Core Analytics is a high visibility position with impact across the company. You work with a variety of internal partners (e.g. Go-To-Market Strategy, Sales, Marketing & Product Analytics) to make Datadog’s business strategy more scientific, data-driven and automated. You’ll build a deep understanding of how our products and operations work at the core, and leverage your expertise to identify areas where data science can drive growth. You’ll prototype, measure expected impact and socialize ideas. Your hands-on expertise and leadership will help you mentor and empower fellow data scientists to transform those ideas into actionable insights.

At Datadog, we place value in our office culture - the relationships and collaboration it builds and the creativity it brings to the table. We operate as a hybrid workplace to ensure our Datadogs can create a work-life harmony that best fits them.

What You’ll Do:

  • Collaborate with business partners to build a deep understanding of the different aspects of our business (Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, Product Strategy).
  • Identify high impact opportunities applying data science and AI in our business processes, prototype and socialize your ideas to non technical stakeholders. Kick-off cross team initiatives.
  • Own projects from beginning to end. Be hands-on as a technical leader, from research and iteration to productionization at scale.
  • Lead projects and mentor fellow data scientists as the most senior engineer in the team.
  • Build best practices in terms of machine learning lifecycle , underlying tooling and infrastructure. Foster an environment of technical excellence.
  • Measure impact through attribution, statistics and A/B tests. Build best practices to effectively measure and communicate impacts.
  • Bring feedback and influence the roadmaps of the Data and AI platforms.

Who You Are:

  • 10+ years of industry experience in a data science role and a Master’s degree or PhD in relevant fields.
  • 4+ years of relevant leadership experience as an engineering manager or technical leader.
  • Deep understanding of Machine Learning lifecycle, best practices, algorithms and domains and their applications to business (e.g. clustering, forecasting, personalization, recommendation, NLPs and LLMs usage, drift and explainability).
  • You are impact-driven and have an entrepreneurial mindset. You have a strong track record of designing, prototyping, scaling and launching data science products to solve business problems.
  • Strong coding skills in general purpose languages like Scala or Python, and expertise with software engineering principles around testing, code reviews and deployment.
  • Strong data engineering and design skills. Experience with tools like Snowflake, Spark and Airflow. Experience in building reverse ETLs to push back insights to business systems like Salesforce, Marketo or Ads Platforms.
  • Ability to collaborate with business stakeholders, understand their needs, and simplify complex technical concepts for them to solve their problems.

Datadog values people from all walks of life. We understand not everyone will meet all the above qualifications on day one. That's okay. If you’re passionate about technology and want to grow your skills, we encourage you to apply.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
