SR. Payroll Specialist Position Summary:

Mostly Remote... Ideal Candidate location NE Houston area

The Sr. Payroll Specialist is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll in compliance with all legal and company policies. This role provides strategic support to leadership, works closely with cross-functional teams, and ensures smooth operations within the payroll and HR departments. The Sr. Payroll Specialist will also assist with policy development, internal audits, and the continuous improvement of payroll processes.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists with the processing of weekly and semi-monthly ADP payrolls ensuring timely issuance of paychecks to employees while compliant local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Enters and updates employee data in ADP, Workday, and time keeping systems ensuring data integrity.
  • Maintains and updates accurate payroll records including changes to employee status, wage rates, benefits, tax withholding, and deductions.
  • Records data of employee transfers as well as changes affecting net wages, such as exemptions, and insurance coverage, for each employee in ADP and Workday, where applicable.
  • Provides high-level support to internal teams and employees, responding to payroll-related questions and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Provides reporting and support for EEO compliance, workers’ compensation, unemployment, and labor laws requirements.
  • Partners with leadership and operations team on all risk management, safety, and worker compensation.
  • Works confidentially with employee information or external requests that may involve sensitive information.
  • Collaborates with HR to create and maintain payroll-related policies and procedures, ensuring consistency and compliance across the organization.
  • Conducts regular audits of payroll processes and transactions. Reconciles payroll data and resolves discrepancies as necessary.
  • May mentor and provide guidance to junior payroll staff. Conducts training on payroll processes and systems as needed.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as per business needs.

SKILLS/SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including consultative approach and listening skills.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting fundamentals and payroll best practices.
  • Proficient in managing payroll functions and processes while utilizing multiple HRIS systems, including ADP Payroll, Workday, and E-time Time Tracking System.
  • Ability to adapt to changing processes and evolving technology in payroll systems
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team, demonstrating resourcefulness, initiative, a results-driven approach, and a strong commitment to service excellence.
  • Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality regarding employee data.
  • Results-oriented with ability to effectively manage projects and tight deadlines.
  • Ability to manage complex payroll data with accuracy and attention to detail.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Accounting or related field preferred.
  • High School diploma/GED with progressive HR/Payroll experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum of 4 - 7 years of experience in payroll processing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, SharePoint & PowerPoint) required.
  • Experience with payroll systems such as ADP, Workday, and Kronos applications preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of payroll legislation, tax compliance, and reporting requirements.

Target Compensation Range: $80,000.-$88,000.
