This opportunity has a global reach and provides the chance to collaborate with peers working in technical knowledge. You will work collaboratively with Digital Services, Global Services, Product Management, Product Engineering, Technology Services, and New Product Introduction teams to ensure that our users have quality knowledge content that leads them to self-service success. 

 

The Sr. Content Engineer is responsible for leading, developing, and improving content production and publication processes. A successful Sr. Content Engineer will have proficiency in producing content, like web-based articles in the MyF5 knowledge base, email newsletters, instructional videos, and social media communications. 

You may develop content in close collaboration with technical subject matter experts, or work independently to fill a specific business need. A successful candidate will identify stakeholders, conduct interviews, create publication plans, and track milestones for one or more types of media. You must be able to work with limited supervision and simultaneously manage multiple assignments and projects. A successful candidate will have strong interpersonal and organizational skills, be able to work collaboratively across the organization, and forge cross-team relationships with a broad range of global stakeholders, including SMEs in UX, product managers, engineers, program managers, and more. You may be the single point of contact for the Digital Services team in one of the many ways we interlock with other parts of the F5 business, such as Product Lifecycle/Release Management, Support Enablement, and Community Support.  

What will you do in Digital Services?

  • Independently design, write, and publish product documentation for all products in the F5 product suite. 

  • Demonstrate ability to help define and maintain brand, voice, writing policy, styles, and standard language for written documentation and video publication.

  • Advocate for the use of and adherence to style guides when editing content written by others. 

  • Independently design, write, and record videos to support all products in the F5 product suite and for the MyF5 site. 

  • Apply best practices to F5 customer portals and web properties, focusing on consistency and enabling customer success.  

  • Work to precise deadlines determined by external factors such as product release cycles and security disclosures. 

  • Decipher complex technical data and transform it into usable documentation and videos for online presentation. 

  • Research existing content to fill content gaps and ensure consistent presentation of content. 

  • Build relationships with Product and Release Management teams to enable product support and improve customers experience of new releases. 

  • Mentor and train staff in knowledge management tools, writing, video production, and publishing practices. 

  • May supervise and delegate content production to junior or staff-level content specialists. 

  • Simultaneously manage multiple assignments. 

  • Lead  team projects, such as developing new tools, developing and performing UAT of new systems, developing workflows, and continuously improving processes 

  • Use a combination of empathy, logic, hard data, direct feedback to inform decision making

We're looking for this experience:

Significant demonstrated experience in one of the two following fields, and moderate experience in the remaining field:

  • Text based product documentation, knowledge base articles,  journalism, and social media

  • Video content production for web publication

Text and graphic based content production skills and abilities:

  • Significant experience with content management and publishing/delivery systems (Salesforce Knowledge, Adobe AEM, Wrike, Outlook, Sharepoint)

  • Demonstrated experience with content creation systems such as Dreamweaver, InDesign, etc.

  • Moderate knowledge of editing HTML source code.

Video content production skills and abilities: 

  • Experience scripting and story boarding videos documenting technical procedures, or personal interviews and voxpop segments.

  • Experience creating content, including capturing  product UI screens, recording audio, narrating, and editing videos end-to-end  for online publication: ​​​​Adobe Premiere, Camtasia, DaVinci, Captivate, iMovie, After Effects, etc.

  • Experience managing video assets and publishing content  in tools, such as YouTube and Microsoft Stream.

How do you qualify?

  • Showcase 8+ years of combined technical writing and/or video production experience in a highly technical industry such as software or hardware.  

  • Hold a 4-year degree in communications field: English, Journalism, Graphic Design, Video Production or equivalent experience

  • Experience with Knowledge Centered Service (KCS®) and KCS coaching. KCS Fundamentals or v6 Practices certification desirable

Other skills/attributes that will be useful:

  • Able to work outside of core business hours including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays.

  • Self-starter, resourceful, able to work independently or in a collaborative environment.

  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills, both oral and written.

  • Ability to work in a global team across all geographies respecting differences in culture, experience, and ways of working. 

  • Constantly advocate for documentation practices and UX improvements aimed at increasing inclusivity & accessibility and respecting & elevating diversity.

  • Aggressively highlight existing shortcomings, gaps, and opportunities to raise the bar.

  • Experience with user survey design and feedback systems a plus; Qualtrics, Gainsight, Medallia, etc.

  • Strong time management skills.

  • Scope long term projects and manage time & resources to deliver on projected deadlines.

The annual base pay for this position is: $121,362.00 - $182,042.00

F5 maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, geographic locations, and market conditions, as well as to reflect F5’s differing products, industries, and lines of business. The pay range referenced is as of the time of the job posting and is subject to change.
