Join Our Team as a Sr. Back-End Software Engineer - Web Services!

Are you a highly skilled Back-End Developer with a passion for building innovative and scalable software solutions? Ferguson is seeking a Senior Back-End Software Engineer - Web Services to play a pivotal role in designing, testing, and enhancing our software applications. In this role, you will apply your expertise in Java, AKS, Spring, and MongoDB, along with SysAdmin/DevOps experience in Azure, to develop robust REST/SOAP APIs, integrate with third-party platforms, and optimize our middleware tier.

As a vital member of our team, you will manage software incident triage, implement changes to database and service models, and contribute to the development of cutting-edge modules. This fast-paced enterprise environment is perfect for a seasoned engineer who thrives on solving complex problems, applying advanced reasoning and analysis, and collaborating to drive innovation.

**This role is approved to be fully remote and can be based anywhere in the United States.**

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for analyzing and solving sophisticated problems and providing solutions to overcome those problems using the newest technologies.
  • Responsible for the design and implementation of the Integration Services Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipeline. Responsibilities will include supporting core tool upgrades, core component upgrades and aligning with security patches.
  • Provide a link between visual design and implementation on the technical side.
  • Understands UI, cross-browser compatibility and modern web standards.
  • Develops and validates test routines to ensure the quality of external and internal interfaces.
  • Work closely with our project teams to ensure a seamless integration and optimal performance.
  • Design and develop applications and software tools to automate, improve, or change business processes and procedures.
  • Support medium to large sized projects from analysis through implementation by serving as an experienced lead developer.
  • Involved in project from startup through implementation to ensure all aspects of the technology plan are accounted for, understood, defined and executed successfully.
  • Collaborate with project team to ensure solid, high-quality coding is complete.
  • Collaborate with front-end developers to integrate the site or application’s internal structure and operations.
  • Optimize applications for maximum speed and scalability.
  • Build technical designs that effectively bring to bear our architecture, using industry standard notation.
  • Effectively give and receive a thorough design and code review following documented coding standards and design template.
  • Develop and perform effective unit testing procedures.
  • Collaborate with Business Analysts, Product Owners, Architects, and team members to craft scalable solutions, address requirements, and complete medium to large-sized projects in a shared-learning environment.
  • Work with third-party software providers to ensure solutions align with Ferguson's needs.
  • Participate in team meetings and communicate concerns or insights to management.
  • Provide estimates for development work and meets deadlines.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to other developers.
  • End-to-end ownership of solutions, ensure accuracy and completeness of solution by having recurring check points / audit loops with technical implementation teams.
  • Provide technical leadership on complex projects, serve as an escalation point for production outages, and collaborate with vendors to resolve 3rd-level support issues.
  • Review team practices to identify improvements and contribute to a collaborative virtual team environment.
  • Adhere to company policies and perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of development experience is preferred. A bachelor’s degree in a computer-related or business-related field, or equivalent work experience, is typically required to meet performance expectations.
  • At least 5+ years of professional IT experience, including 3+ years of hands-on leadership in implementing high-impact, complex IT projects.
  • Proven expertise in developing Java services at an advanced level within an enterprise environment.

Must be skilled in the technologies listed below:

  • Java
  • Spring and Spring Boot
  • AKS Azure Kubernetes Service
  • Linux and bash scripting
  • Azure key vault
  • Azure Service Bus
  • Mongo DB/Relational DB
  • Familiarity with IntelliJ, Eclipse, Maven, BitBucket & GIT/GitHub.
  • Agile exposure to SCRUM and Kanban, with a focus on JIRA for board management.
  • Expert level experience developing REST style services that deliver responses in both JSON and XML.
  • Foundational knowledge of Microsoft Azure.

Associate is expected to operate at the specialist level across the following areas of technical knowledge and skill:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to create technical design documents and presentations using tools such as Microsoft Visio and PowerPoint.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiar with version control systems like Git.
  • Experience working with relational databases (Oracle, SQL Server) and a solid understanding of IT infrastructure components, including hardware, software, networks, operating systems, and Cloud platforms (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS).
  • In-depth knowledge of software development lifecycle methodologies (waterfall and agile) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize, multitask, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and multi-functionally within a team, both in-person and in virtual settings.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and adaptable to changing environments, with solid attention to detail and a focus on delivering high-quality results.
  • Strong leadership skills, capable of serving as a primary resource for development and engineering teams while fostering collaboration and consensus-building.
  • Interest in analyzing data, business processes, and identifying innovative solutions to complex problems.
  • Commitment to staying ahead of technology advancements and applying learned knowledge effectively.
