Location - Bellevue/ San Fransisco

Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled Software Engineering Architect to join our dynamic and innovative team. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing and architecting complex software systems while ensuring security standard processes are at the forefront. You will work on multiple high-impact projects, simultaneously designing solutions across diverse cloud substrates, ensuring the scalability, reliability, performance, and security of our products.
As a key technical leader, you will shape the architecture of distributed systems, guide engineering teams in implementing standard methodologies, and make sure secure guardrails to protect our systems and data. Your expertise will directly influence our ability to deliver high-quality solutions that meet both business needs and exacting security standards.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Architectural Design & Strategy: Lead the design and definition of secure, scalable, and resilient architecture for large-scale, distributed, and high-performance systems across multiple cloud environments (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, etc.). Ensure solutions are both technically sound and aligned with security, compliance, and business requirements.
  • Security-First Approach: Incorporate security standard methodologies into every layer of the architecture. Work closely with security teams to implement secure coding practices, integrate security tools, and define guardrails that prevent vulnerabilities. Conduct threat modeling, risk assessments, and recommend solutions to address potential security issues.
  • High-Impact Projects: Simultaneously handle multiple complex, high-priority projects, ensuring that architectural decisions support both short-term work and long-term business objectives. Coordinate across teams and collaborators to maintain consistency and alignment in solution design across projects.
  • Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Provide leadership and mentorship to engineering teams, guiding them in implementing secure, efficient, and scalable solutions. Develop a collaborative environment where standard methodologies are shared and followed, and where security considerations are embedded in every aspect of the development lifecycle.
  • System Integration & Cloud Substrates: Design solutions that work seamlessly across multiple cloud platforms and on-prem environments. Lead the integration of diverse systems, platforms, and technologies, ensuring interoperability and security compliance across all substrates.
  • Guardrail Implementation & Automation: Develop and carry out architectural guardrails that align with security, scalability, and operational standard methodologies. Integrate automated security checks into the development pipeline to prevent vulnerabilities and ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Performance, Scalability & Reliability: Lead efforts to optimize the performance and scalability of systems, identifying and addressing potential bottlenecks. Ensure solutions are highly available and resilient to both traffic spikes and operational failures.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with multi-functional teams—product managers, security authorities, data engineers, and other stakeholders—to define, refine, and implement architectural strategies that meet business goals while maintaining a high standard of security and technical excellence.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Create comprehensive documentation for architectural designs, decisions, and processes. Ensure clarity in reporting security metrics, risk assessments, and the status of architectural initiatives to leadership and partners.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience: 15+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 3+ years in an architectural role, including substantial experience in designing secure, distributed systems.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Expertise in architecting and building large-scale, distributed systems and microservices across multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Mastery and hands-on experience with modern programming languages (e.g., Java, C#, Python, Go).
  • Strong background in implementing security standard methodologies (e.g., encryption, access controls, secure coding, vulnerability management).
  • Experience with databases (SQL/NoSQL) and caching technologies.
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Proficient in cloud-native services, serverless architectures, and DevOps practices.
  • Experience with implementing CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and infrastructure as code (IaC).
  • Security Expertise: Consistent track record of applying security principles and frameworks such as OWASP, Zero Trust, and securing systems against common threats. Experience with threat modeling, security audits, and vulnerability assessments.
  • Leadership & Collaboration: Consistent record to lead and mentor multi-functional teams, fostering collaboration while ensuring alignment to security guidelines and standard processes.
  • Problem-Solving & Design Thinking: Strong analytical skills, with a deep understanding of design patterns, architectural frameworks, and a security-first approach for solving complex technical challenges.
  • Agile Methodologies: Experience with Agile development methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and a strong understanding of Agile principles for handling multiple, concurrent projects.
  • Ability to independently craft and deliver large sophisticated projects
  • Ability to work with other architects, principal architects, and Chief Technology Officers to craft the architectural vision and roadmap for the organization
  • Develops technical performance architecture that solves most complex performance issues
  • Ability to drive long-term design strategies that span multiple complex projects, deliver technical reports and performance presentations to customers and at industry events
  • Ability to build an environment for clear and open discussion of all issues You involve the right people, from your team and others, to resolve critical issues
  • Experience in short release cycles, the full software lifecycle. Some roles require experience on a product that was released for public consumption across multiple releases
  • Participation in the team’s on-call rotation to address complex problems in real-time and keep services operational and highly available

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in Cloud Architecture (AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect, etc.).
  • Familiarity with security certifications and frameworks such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, or GDPR.
  • Experience in data engineering, AI/ML, or big data architectures.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce platform a plus.

For Washington-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $230,700 to $351,800.

For California-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $251,900 to $384,100.

Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Certain roles may be eligible for incentive compensation, equity, benefits.
