We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our new Rowan Patents team at Clarivate. In this role, you will be designing, developing, coding and customizing software applications from product conception to end user interface. You will be responsible for analyzing and understanding customer requirements and preferences, incorporating these into the design and development process.

About you – experience, education, skills, and accomplishments

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in computer science, software engineering, or a related field

  • 1+ years of experience as a Software Engineer

  • 1+ year of experience with HTML, CSS, TypeScript, and JavaScript

It would be great if you also had…

  • Experience with Ember.js, Electron.js, CKEditor 5, TypeScript, SCSS, Python & Django, Terraform, and .NET

  • Intellectual property knowledge, specifically patents

  • Experience with the patent lifecycle – disclosing inventions, reviewing patent drafts, responding to office actions, etc

  • Experience with Microsoft’s OOXML format

  • Knowledge of Microsoft’s OLE format

  • Experience with generative AI prompting strategies, ideally when using smaller models

What will you be doing in this role?

  • Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code in accordance with coding standards

  • Works closely with higher-level engineers to increase functional knowledge

  • Learn and apply best practices in software development

  • Develops and applies understanding of software development lifecycle and delivery methodology

  • Suggests alternative methodologies or techniques to achieving desired results

  • Maintains awareness of technical advances

  • Manually tests and unit tests all assigned applications

  • Participates as a team member on various engineering projects

  • Writes application technical documentation

  • Follows team policies, procedures, and work instructions

Rowan Patents, a part of Clarivate, joined the company in 2024. Prior to the acquisition, the core engineering team worked together for 10 years as a startup. Rowan Patents focuses on AI-enabled solutions designed for patent preparation and prosecution, specially designed for patent practitioners to establish and protect patents more effectively.  This enables Clarivate to extend its workflow automation solutions beyond its market-leading IP management and intelligence capabilities, delivering new solutions to support patent preparation, filing and prosecution.

Hours of Work

  • Permanent, full-time position

  • This is a hybrid role working 1-2 days a week in our Seattle, Washington office
