About the teamThe UX Research team sits within a multidisciplinary team of researchers, Zillow Research & Insights (ZRI), which includes Customer and Partner Insights Strategists, UX Researchers, Behavioral Scientists, and Population Scientists. We all play a significant role within the greater product and marketing organizations. ZRI sits within Zillow Experience Design (ZxD), a fast-paced, collaborative, and driven product design team. About the role

As a Senior UX researcher on ZRI, you'll be responsible for shaping exceptional experiences to reinvent and radically simplify real-estate. You'll provide our data-hungry team with meaningful insights and work with designers, design technologists, and cross-discipline partners to continuously learn and iterate our experiences. Our mission is to make Zillow the most-loved place to discover, buy, sell, and rent a home.

Responsibilities

  • Apply appropriate qualitative and quantitative research methods to evaluate and identify opportunities to improve Zillow’s experiences

  • Lead research activities like participant recruiting, user interviews, long-form surveys, site-intercept surveys, diary studies, co-design sessions, concept evaluation, and usability testing

  • Synthesize and frame user needs to guide product strategy and innovation

  • Lead multiple projects independently, prioritize research efforts based on business objectives, and drive a research roadmap for a multi-disciplinary team 

  • Uphold responsible AI development practices to ensure ethical, transparent, and fair usage of AI technologies - both for internal partners and for our shared end customers

  • Present research insights and regularly engage with designers, design technologists, product managers, data scientists, applied scientists, engineers, and other researchers

  • Travel to in-person collaboration sessions and team building events ~6-8 weeks per year

  • Contribute, learn, grow, and have fun

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice, which must be identified to the Company. U.S. employees may live in any of the 50 United States, with limited exceptions.

In California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Washington state, and Washington DC the standard base pay range for this role is $145,500.00 - $232,500.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Washington state, and Washington DC and may not be applicable to other locations.

In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.

Who you are

  • PhD in relevant field 

  • 5+ years executing UX research or similar role conducting primary research in an applied setting

  • Expertise designing and executing evaluative research studies to assess digital experiences

  • Experience moderating remote/virtual research with research participants (e.g., interviews, usability testing)

  • Expertise in survey design

  • Expertise in descriptive and inferential statistics

  • Expertise with data analysis using R or Python and familiarity with SQL

  • Proven track record thriving in a fast-paced, collaborative environment exploring ambiguous opportunity areas

  • Adept prioritizing research activities to deliver practical insights and direction quickly

  • Programmatic thinker able to stand-up and execute multi-phased efforts and research programs

  • Interest in exploring new experimental methodologies and tools

  • Strong, proven product sense

  • Nice to have: hands-on experience experimenting with AI tools in research workflow and curiosity about AI industry trends 

  • Nice to have: systems background (finance sector, medical/insurance), or another highly regulated industry benefitting from “outside the box” thinking
