Senior Software Development Engineer:

Are you a driven Software Development Engineer eager to design, enhance, and build innovative solutions with cutting-edge technologies? Are you passionate about developing real-time detection platforms that scale to meet the ever-growing security demands of a global organization? Do you want to be part of a team known for tackling complex cybersecurity challenges and making a significant impact across the company?

At Expedia, our Security team is committed to safeguarding the business with solutions focused on Cybersecurity Incident Detection and Response (including cyber-attacks), Security Vulnerability Management, and Security Compliance. Our in-house monitoring and Big Data processing platform processes over 6 billion security events per day, forming the backbone of our Cybersecurity Incident Handling capabilities.

We are looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer to join our Software Development Center team and drive forward technology solutions that will enhance our ability to detect, prevent, and respond to EG Cybersecurity threats. In this role,  you will lead the design and development of integrated software solutions that analyze secure logs across all Expedia brands on a global scale. You will be responsible for creating and maintaining reporting user interfaces and remediation systems to support the identification and resolution of security incidents. You will be building highly available, scalable systems that can efficiently process and analyze hundreds of millions of log events daily as well as implementing advanced techniques for global security detection and mitigation to keep our systems secure in real-time. You are expected to collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful deployment and operation of security solutions.

In this role, you will:

  • Collaborate with business and technical teams to solve complex problems and deliver impactful solutions.

  • Design and develop scalable, low-latency, resilient, fault-tolerant, and highly available systems capable of efficiently processing and analyzing hundreds of millions of log events daily.

  • Lead the design and development of integrated software solutions that analyze secure logs across all Expedia brands on a global scale.

  • Serve as a player-coach, managing and overseeing day-to-day work in a security domain, applying expertise to develop effective solutions.

  • Demonstrate creativity and innovation in utilizing development tools while adhering to established design standards through the use of modern development tools.

  • Communicate complex technical information clearly and concisely, tailoring messages to the audience to ensure maximum impact and understanding.

  • Create and maintain user interfaces and remediation systems to support the identification and resolution of security incidents.

  • Implement advanced techniques for global security detection and mitigation, ensuring systems are secure in real-time.

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful deployment and operation of security solutions.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.

  • 8+ years of experience in a software development engineer role or a similar capacity.

  • A self-starter who is consistently seeking innovation opportunities to enhance customer experiences, with the ability to own solutions end-to-end.

  • Strong technical proficiency, with the ability to problem-solve and apply critical thinking effectively.

  • A deep understanding of software design principles, algorithms, and data structures.

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to articulate ideas clearly to peers and leadership, supporting them with data when applicable.

  • A collaborative team player who takes pride in the work of the team and focuses on driving technical operations while leading by example.

  • Prior experience working with distributed systems and object-oriented programming languages such as Java, as well as SQL and NoSQL databases.

  • Experience in developing and leveraging AI/ML models and large language models (LLMs) to enhance team capabilities.

  • Experience working with Agile/Scrum methodologies and using cloud services (e.g., AWS).

  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, collaborative, and fast-paced environment.

  • Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

  • Experience with security tools and applications is a plus.

The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $173,000.00 to $242,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $277,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
