Job Description

The Genomic Discovery team is seeking a statistical geneticist with expertise in conducting analyses to advance drug discovery. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in statistical genetics methods and their applications. The candidate should also have experience applying best practices in statistical genetics and implementing rigorous quality control measures. In this role, they will design, execute, and interpret genetic analyses across diverse populations, leveraging insights to drive target identification and validation. We encourage candidates who are passionate about increasing the inclusion of underrepresented populations in genomic research to apply, as this is a core mission of Variant Bio. It is strongly preferred that this role is based in Seattle, WA and in the office a minimum of 3 days a week.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize standard and custom statistical genetics software, including tools for genome-wide association studies and meta-analyses, to conduct analyses.
  • Design and implement statistical genetic analyses across a variety of study designs including quantitative traits and family studies.
  • Interpret results and refine follow-up analyses to ensure proper inference and support downstream applications.
  • Familiar with post-GWAS analysis methods such as colocalization, conditional analysis, fine-mapping and mendelian randomization. 
  • Work with bioinformaticians, software engineers and cloud architects to mature workflows and integrate approaches into existing infrastructure.
  • Communicate results internally and externally through presentations and publications.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. with 4+ years of experience, 10+ years with Masters in statistical genetics, genetic epidemiology or related field.
  • Experience using genetics in drug discovery activities.
  • Solid conceptual background in the key principles of population and statistical genetics, as well as formal training in statistics or genetic epidemiology.
  • Good working knowledge of public human genomic resources, such as the 1000 Genomes Project, the Human Genome Diversity Project, gnomAD, the UK Biobank and other biobanks.
  • Strong programming skills and experience with high performance computing.
  • Independent, creative, detail-orientated, and a critical thinker.

Anticipated annual base salary for this position is $150,000 - $185,000 plus up to 15% bonus and an options package, for total compensation of up to $172,500 - $212,750, plus equity options.

The annual salary range above is based on the responsibilities and qualifications listed above. Individual salary will depend on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
