The BDS M&PT (Materials & Processes Technology) team is seeking a Senior M&P Engineer to join the team in Tukwila, WA. The candidate will be joining a team responsible for developing, defining, and driving Engineering and Technology requirements across multiple programs, focusing on Commercial Derivative Military Aircraft Programs (CDMA).

Position Responsibilities:

Defines requirements and approves tools, equipment, materials, parts, and processes used in the engineering design, manufacture and/or maintenance of products for ground-based engineering and technology support – general support across many disciplines (contamination sampling, analysis, remediation recommendations, specifications, supplier support, facility compliance monitoring, structural components and engineering, and composites work for interior and exterior applications, etc.)

Advise stakeholders on the properties and fabrication of metal parts and composite parts as well as assembly and fabrication topics

Defines and leads engineering control for tools, equipment, materials, parts, and processes used in the engineering design, manufacture and/or maintenance of Boeing CDMA platforms. Act as support to structural/mechanical M&P engineering, assisting with drawing review of structural components, Parts, and Processes

Incorporates engineering best practices for CDMA systems manufacturing

Partners with suppliers, build/fab teams, design IPTs to review contamination approaches and implementation practices

Participates and acts as M&P Engineer for Drawing review, specification requirements and interpretation, specifically on how M&P fits into design and structural analysis

Assists in evaluation of emerging technologies for potential application to business needs
-
Performs routine tests and audits to qualify suppliers to applicable requirements
-
Working knowledge of CFR 25.601 and DO-160

Conducts routine analysis and testing to determine performance or reasons for processes challenges and have ability to use statistical analysis concepts such as normal distribution, standard deviations, mean, probability, and confidence levels

Assists in implementing corrective and preventive actions

Uses project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements

Incorporates environmental health and safety, LEAN and Quality principles into (1) processes, (2) research, design and qualification, (3) work procedures and (4) labs

Display skill and ability to collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze data; summarize findings; develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources. Use a variety of media, clearly conveys information and ideas to individuals or groups in a manner that engages the audience and helps them understand and retain the message

Travel 15% or less to support CDMA (Commercial Derivative Military Aircraft) programs, as required.
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options. (Tukwila Site, Buildings – 9-98, 9-96, 9-101).

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

5+ years of engineering experience
-
Ability to obtain Special Program Access or other Government Access Requirements
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

5+ years of materials, structural, or chemical engineering experience in a related technical field
-
Experience working across engineering environments with multi-disciplinary goals and requirements
-
Ability to review and correct engineering drawings and other engineering documents with skills in CATIA or Enovia
-
Prior Process Engineering work experience in highly robust and fast-paced environments
-
CDMA engineering support and manufacturing experience
-
Experience with requirements flow down and ability to communicate results upwards
-
Knowledge of material processing for metals, polymers, composites, and electronics and how they come together in CDMA platforms
-
Knowledge of corrosion principles (such as crevice, stress, dissimilar metals)
-
Advanced knowledge of design concepts and techniques (e.g., concurrent engineering, Design for Manufacture/Assembly [DFM/A])
-
Ability to read, understand, and interpret engineering drawings and specifications (e.g., blueprint/schematic reading, specification, change, design)
-
Knowledge of responsibilities and tasks performed by various Engineering departments/disciplines (e.g., design, test, software, technology, avionics). Knowledge of the interaction between departments/disciplines and how their products/processes affect one another and impact non-engineering processes (e.g., Operations, Logistics, Business)

Knowledge of engineering principles and activities supporting M&P across skill sets and skill codes – 6A8, 6A7, etc

Knowledge of material processing for metals (e.g., welding forging, heat treat, machining, forming), polymers and composites (e.g., autoclave curing, lay-up, co-curing, repair), sealants and finishes processing (e.g., plating, painting, surface preparation, fay surface sealing, fillet sealing), and ceramic (e.g., high temperature processing, machining) and electronic materials (e.g., soldering, printed circuit board cleaning, conformal coating)

Ability to apply knowledge of materials engineering and scientific principles to develop, design, analyze, test, and validate solutions for complex systems, sub-systems and designs

Some knowledge of NOE, MECR, GIDEP, RCCA and other reconciliation procedures

Ability to understand the big picture and the inter-relationships of all positions and activities in the system, including the impact of changes in one area on another area. This includes the ability to see and understand the inter-relationships between components of systems and plans, anticipate future events, and apply the principles of systems thinking to accelerate performance
Typical Education/Experience:
Level 4
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
