Senior Engineering Manager, Cloud Engineering - Hybrid - Seattle
Job Description
Nordstrom is seeking an experienced leader to manage our Cloud Engineering team and oversee our multi-cloud infrastructure on AWS, GCP, and Azure. In this role, you will lead a team responsible for designing and maintaining secure, scalable, and cost-effective cloud infrastructure and platforms. You will also collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to ensure our cloud solutions meet engineering standards and business needs, develop resilient cloud services, advise on secure architectures, and implement tools for monitoring and managing cloud infrastructure and cloud expenses. Additionally, you will oversee key projects, manage cloud audit engagements, and maintain strong vendor relationships.

You also bring valuable experience in managing both systems engineers and software developers.
Key Responsibilities:

Oversee and secure our multi‑cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, and Azure) to ensure optimal performance, scalability, compliance, and cost efficiency.

Lead the Cloud Engineering team in designing, architecting, and managing cloud services and stacks that align with Nordstrom’s business objectives and strict security standards.

Provide guidance on secure cloud design practices, ensuring adherence to robust architectures and industry-standard best practices.

Allocate resources for design reviews to ensure engineering teams have the appropriate support for delivering high‑quality cloud solutions.

Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to build cloud expertise and promote a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

Support the development and deployment of internal tools to manage, monitor, and secure cloud infrastructures while optimizing usage and controlling costs.

Evaluate and implement cloud security solutions and oversee audit processes to effectively manage risks.

Ensure compliance with regulatory standards—including PCI, HIPAA, SOX, and SOC1—by actively engaging in audits and assisting application teams.

Manage cloud financial operations through effective budgeting, forecasting, and proactive cost management practices.

Resource key projects and strategic initiatives to empower engineering teams and ensure on‑time delivery.

Maintain strong relationships with cloud vendors to keep Nordstrom informed of the latest innovations and industry best practices.
Requirements:

10 plus years of engineering experience.
-
5 plus years in leadership roles, managing and guiding diverse, multi-disciplinary teams.

Expertise in designing, implementing, and maintaining secure, scalable cloud infrastructures across AWS (preferably with a large multi-account implementation), GCP, and Azure.

Experience applying cloud provider well‑architected frameworks (e.g., AWS Well‑Architected, Google Cloud Architecture Framework, and Azure Well‑Architected) to build, review, and optimize resilient, high‑performing, and cost‑efficient systems.

Solid hands‑on experience in cloud operations, including deployment, monitoring, incident response, and using Infrastructure as Code.

Good understanding of cloud networking, including protocols, routing, load balancing, DNS, and network security best practices.

Proven skills in managing cloud financial operations such as budgeting, cost forecasting, and expense optimization.

Experience leading software developers and systems engineers.

Knowledge of Identity and Access Management (IAM) across various cloud platforms.

Experience managing internal and external cloud audits and implementing effective security measures.

Strong leadership and communication skills, capable of translating technical concepts into clear business insights.

Knowledge of containerization, orchestration, and automation tools like Kubernetes, Terraform, and CloudFormation.

Pay Range Details
The pay range(s) below are provided in compliance with state specific laws. Pay ranges may be different in other locations.
Washington: $162,000 - $297,000 AnnuallyThis position may be eligible for performance-based incentives/bonuses. Benefits include 401k, medical/vision/dental/life/disability insurance options, PTO accruals, Holidays, and more. Eligibility requirements may apply based on location, job level, classification, and length of employment.
