As a Sr. Database Administrator, you will support database systems, focusing on analysis, planning, implementation, and upgrades. Using established best practices, you'll manage complex systems to achieve strategic objectives related to client needs, infrastructure availability, automation, and database environment security. Responsibilities include resolving complex incidents, enhancing monitoring and alerts, and consulting with application support and development teams.  You will be asked to have a “take charge attitude and own your domain.” We want someone who can participate in build conversations and the decision-making process for infrastructure design of complex systems.

To be successful in this role, you need to be able to work in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment. You must be a self-starter and professional who can successfully bring projects to closure with a minimum of direction, guidance and oversight. You also need to be able to manage and balance your time between strategic and tactical activities.

About The Role

  • You will work with a team of peers to build robust, reliable and effective database management solutions for all lines of business.

  • You will provide technical direction and database expertise for complex data repository challenges.

  • You will participate in after-hours project or maintenance work (nights & weekends) and share on-call responsibilities with other team members.

  • You will design, build, implement, support and operationalize business critical database systems

Job Description

  • Troubleshoot complex database issues in accurate and timely manner.

  • Maintain database disaster recovery procedures to ensure availability and speedy recovery.

  • Ensure databases are deployed according to GBS standards and requirements.

  • Identify and resolve database issues related to performance and capacity.

  • Ensure database management and maintenance tasks are performed.

  • Ensure ticket Service level agreement expectations are met.

  • Stay updated with new database technologies and analyze such technologies to bring into scope of existing infrastructure.

  • Able to switch between OLTP and OLAP environments

  • Expert SQL Server Database, multiple platforms preferred (MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, Postgres, CosmosDB, MongoDB, MariaDB, Aurora, DynamoDB).  Must be comfortable with performance tuning.

  • The applicant will need to understand integrated security and be able to participate in troubleshooting activities.

  • The ability to discuss database related topics with both technical & business audiences.

  • Investigate, offer and implement resolution to database issues.

  • Monitor and report on database storage use.

  • Experience writing T-SQL and the ability to understand what others have developed.

  • Monitor, tune and manage scheduled tasks, backup jobs, recover processes, alerts, and database storage needs following firm change control procedures.

  • Perform fault diagnosis, troubleshoot and correct problems at the database and application performance level.

  • Work well in a team environment within the database administration team and with other Technical Service Group teams and other departments within the Wolters Kluwer.

  • Provide regular reports on performance and stability of database environment, identifying coming needs to ensure continued reliable service.

  • Document, develop, test and implement updates to database systems.

  • Enjoy constantly learning new technologies and contributing to the knowledge of others.

  • Work outside of regular business hours for project or operational work.

Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related experience.

  • Expert SQL Server Database, multiple platforms preferred.  Must be comfortable with advanced performance tuning.

  • Experience with all aspects of setup, maintenance, troubleshooting, monitoring, and security.

  • Experience with Upgrade/Migration of database platforms of On-Prem to cloud solutions a plus.

  • Take ownership of and seek to improve on existing systems.

  • Building cloud model servers end to end a plus.

  • Data Security, Backup & Recovery tools experience

  • Experience working with Windows server, including Active Directory.

  • Management of database environments in cloud solutions.

Compensation:

Target salary range CA, CT, CO, DC, HI, IL, MD, MN, NY, RI, WA: $114,750 - $160,450
