The Team

The vision of Global Financial & Accounting Services (GFAS) is to provide innovative and scalable global business solutions in accounting, tax, payroll, treasury, procurement, and financial operations while safeguarding the reputation of the foundation and our related entities, with the highest standards of integrity and operational excellence.

GFAS is a division within the Finance organization at the foundation and an important part of the operations function. Operations supports and enables the six program teams to make investments and to run effectively and efficiently. As a function, Finance employs approximately 200 FTE’s. The GFAS division is significant (50+ FTE’s), and responsible for financial reporting processes, technical and advisory services, internal controls, vendor due diligence and the accounting functions at the foundation.

Your Role

The Senior Associate on the Global Payroll team will lead the processing of U.S. and global company payroll. The person hired in this role will need to be a problem solver, trusted business partner, and have understanding and experience with payroll operations in US and international contexts, payroll accounting and auditing, and HRIS systems. This role will ensure accurate calculation of wages, tax withholdings, and company deductions as well as proper governmental reporting and compliance.

*This position is a limited-term position for 36 months. Limited-term employees are full-time employees of the foundation with salary and benefits.

What You’ll Do

  • Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.

  • Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.

  • Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.

  • Establishes cross-functional partnerships within GFAS and other operations teams to collaborate and develop solutions to complex payroll issues 

  • Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.

  • Identifies and recommends updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures across all regional offices and affiliated entities, focusing on efficiencies and best practices 

This position has no direct reports, but works in a highly matrixed environment with the following partners: 

  • Frequent interaction with individuals in Finance, IT, and Human Resources and external vendors

  • Interaction with all members in GFAS, including the Accounting, Payments, and Tax teams

  • Interaction with staff as primary internal partner/customer 

Your Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of payroll experience or 7+ years of payroll experience is required.

  • Ability to function well under pressure, often in a deadline-driven and fast-paced environment.

  • Skilled in building strong relationships and communicating effectively and concisely with a variety of constituents inside and outside the organization.

  • Must possess excellent organizational skills and be able to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks in a changing environment with a high degree of accuracy.

  • Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal controls, and payroll taxes.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Intellectually curious with solution orientation and the ability to identify new ways of working 

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and related software.

  • Proficient with payroll software applications

**Must be able to legally work in the country where this position is located without visa sponsorship.

The salary range for this role is $105,400 to $158,000 USD. We recognize high-wage market differences in Seattle and Washington D.C., where our offices are located. The range for this role in these locations is $114,900 to $172,300 USD. As a mission-driven organization, we strive to balance competitive pay with our mission. New hires salaries are typically between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint. Actual placement in the range will depend on a candidate’s job-related skills, experience, and expertise, as evaluated during the interview process.
