We are seeking for a Senior AI/ML Engineer to drive outcomes through teams by leveraging advanced AI/ML knowledge and hands-on research in generative AI.
The Applied AI/ML Research team at DigitalOcean is dedicated to being at the forefront of advanced AI/ML innovation. You will engage in researching and benchmarking generative AI models, evaluating technology partners, and playing a key role in building and enhancing products that leverage these advanced capabilities.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Guide teams to major deliverables with knowledge and expertise in AI/ML, particularly in generative models.
- Own a technical area by providing technical leadership for a team focused on advanced AI/ML innovations.
- Drive large cross-functional projects independently to completion, emphasizing the integration of creative AI technologies.
- Partner with Product and Engineering to ensure they are aware of the cutting edge and can leverage knowledge into products
- Evaluate technologies and potential partners to find the best fit for DigitalOcean
- Participate and support in engineering excellence
- Independently complete projects from planning to completion with high autonomy
- Collaborate with other engineers to find elegant architectures and solutions that enhance innovative AI capabilities.
What You’ll Add to DigitalOcean:
- Define business requirements to deliver through a team and communicate with different audiences, leveraging expertise in large language models (LLMs) and generative AI.
- Own a technical area by providing technical leadership for a team
- Strong knowledge in AI/ML, GenAI, infrastructure, and developer tools, particularly in creating content generation pipelines
- Able to make effective trade-offs in regards to both engineering, product, research, and business, while balancing short term and long term needs
- Experience with LLMs, transformers, model inference, pre-training, fine-tuning, data platforms, and infrastructure
- 8+ years relevant industry experience in a fast-paced, high growth tech environment delivering business outcomes

- We reward our employees. The salary range for this position is between $170,000.00 - $195,000.00 based on market data, relevant years of experience, and skills. You may qualify for a bonus in addition to base salary; bonus amounts are determined based on company and individual performance. We also provide equity compensation to eligible employees, including equity grants upon hire and the option to participate in our Employee Stock Purchase Program.
