The Sales Engineering team at Plaid is composed of dedicated technical team members who work to connect the dots between the business value promised by our products and the technical solutions that enable them to realize that value. The team plays a crucial role in ensuring our prospects and customers understand how Plaid creates value for their business, driving product adoption, growth, and deeper customer relationships. The Sales Engineering Leader requires a balance of individual contribution and team leadership, being a key player in driving customer success and fostering a collaborative environment for the Sales Engineering team. You will play a critical role in enabling your team and ensuring their success. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership experience, a proven track record of success in complex enterprise sales environments and a passion for successful customer outcomes.  

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with prospects and customers across Plaid’s business, enhancing your team’s technical expertise while managing workloads and providing support to new team members. 
  • Develop the Sales Engineering team’s knowledge of Plaid’s products and the ability to translate those products into solutions that drive business outcomes for customers. Build a team that serves as  the go to experts on Plaid’s products and solutions. 
  • Manage the Sales Engineering team on a day to day basis including conducting one-on-one meetings with team members, acting as a point of escalation for team issues and resolving them effectively, and managing team workloads and performance.
  • Recruit, interview, and onboard new team members. 
  • Partner with sales leadership to strategize on deals, develop sales pitches, complete deep technical discovery and tailor technical presentations to drive better outcomes for prospects, customers and Plaid.
  • Serve as the escalation point and technical advisor to strategic customers, addressing complex needs and solution-fit.
  • Establish best practices for the team regarding demos, proof-of-concepts (POCs) and other related pre-sales activities. 
  • Gather feedback from prospects and customers, communicate and work closely with Product, Engineering, Marketing and Support to shape the product roadmap with customer needs. 

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of demonstrable experience in coaching and leadership skills for mid to large sized sales engineering organizations. 
  • Deep understanding of and experience working with and selling infrastructure products and/or API platforms.  
  • Demonstrated ability to build, motivate and develop talent. 
  • Strong executive presence and the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with senior executives, partners, and internal stakeholders.
  • Entrepreneurial - willing to go the extra mile, strong work ethic, resourceful, “get it done” attitude. 
  • Desire to get your hands dirty and jump right in with customers, prospects and your team. 
  • Ability to work under pressure, deadlines and navigate unexpected roadblocks with a customer-first attitude and a strong sense of empathy.
