Job Summary
CNA's Reinsurance function strategically supports Underwriting by providing innovative solutions to manage volatility and protect the balance sheet. The department focuses on implementing reinsurance strategies, optimizing programs, and ensuring regulatory compliance to enhance risk management and support CNA's mission of delivering tailored insurance solutions and exceptional customer service.
We are looking for a motivated and experienced individual to join Reinsurance Services. This role is essential in managing reinsurance operations and implementing effective risk management strategies. The Reinsurance Manager will collaborate with all levels of Corporate Reinsurance and key external partners, including Underwriting, Actuarial, and Finance, to administer reinsurance programs and support the company's risk management objectives. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain leadership experience by guiding and mentoring a team to achieve strategic goals.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:

  • Manages the work activities and has full responsibility for the performance and development of subordinate staff in accordance with corporate strategic direction. Continually communicates on progress and addresses issues that impact service provided by the reinsurance group.
  • Exhibits a high level of understanding for the treaties within the department. Takes an active role in new and renewal treaty discussions to ensure proper administration capabilities are in place prior to treaty inception.
  • Works with the management team to develop and execute administrative and operational policies consistent with department/corporate goals, strategic planning and growth objectives.
  • Interacts and collaborates with other departments to address business issues and meet organizational objectives.
  • Monitors customer satisfaction and financial results while overseeing compliance to company policies and procedures.
  • Sets direction and establishes performance goals. Coaches and develops employees while fostering a positive, open team environment.
  • Acts as a point of escalation and assists in resolving high visibility problem cases or issues.
  • Participates in meetings and provides input for management decision making.
  • Lead or direct complex projects or work teams.
  • Keeps current on trends and developments within functional area of expertise as well as the insurance industry.


May perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of reinsurance principles, practices and procedures for premium and claim handling.
  • Ability to effectively lead and motivate others in accomplishing established goals.
  • Ability to develop clear business plans aligned with business strategy.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong project management, organizing and planning skills. Knowledge of business process re-engineering, with the ability to recognize and implement best practices.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of CNAs internal and external business partners.
  • In-depth knowledge of the organization's strategies, goals, functions and responsibilities. Strong communication and presentation skills both verbal and written.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business related software.


Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Typically a minimum of six years reinsurance / insurance / risk management experience.
  • Management experience preferred.

I n certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In District of Columbia , California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois , Maryland , Massachusetts , New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $72,000 to $141,000 annually.Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
