Who we areAbout Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

Stripe's Experimental Projects team is our in-house innovation lab where we rapidly transform ideas into working prototypes. We operate as an idea incubator, building and testing new concepts with real users, sometimes going from concept to functional prototype in just days. Experimental projects? It’s exactly what it sounds like. We do projects. They’re experimental. What kind of projects? Well anything really, if we think there’s an opportunity for the next product at Stripe. We find ideas that are interesting, build build build fast, and put in front of real customers to see how well they work. Sometimes we go from idea to functioning prototype within days. It’s a very hands-on, “full stack” role. To move quickly we need to be able to build exceptional web frontends, bring up new backends, integrate with existing systems, and wrangle data into beautiful user experiences. The team has autonomy to bring their ideas forward and work directly with customers to make it happen. Not all ideas ship! We’re comfortable with failure, but we expect on occasion to create the next line of business. We change direction frequently, and do it all with a healthy dose of passion and fun.

What you’ll do

As a Product Designer on the Experimental Projects team, you'll be at the forefront of innovation at Stripe, turning promising ideas into tangible solutions that could shape the future of our platform using new technologies. You'll have the autonomy to identify opportunities, rapidly build designs and/or prototypes alongside engineering, and work directly with users to validate and iterate on your solutions.

This role combines technical excellence with creative problem-solving – you'll work across our entire platform and design systems to bring ideas to life, sometimes in just days.

Your work will help us discover new ways to empower businesses worldwide, contributing directly to Stripe's mission of increasing the GDP of the internet. Whether it's creating new developer tools, exploring novel payment experiences, or inventing entirely new products, you'll have the freedom to experiment and the resources to make a significant impact.

Responsibilities

  • Understand Stripe’s product suite, customer needs, and developments in AI/ML that could influence our strategy
  • Champion design for Stripe’s new innovative products. Apply design priorities and principles to projects, and help show how this work makes progress toward design goals in the user experience
  • Work with engineering and product to design, build, and launch user-facing product experiences
  • Work closely with our partner teams to understand their needs and opportunities
  • Partner closely with our user research team and support ongoing research projects
  • Participate in team reviews and share your work regularly with design and company leadership
  • Prototype and validate ideas quickly, pivoting or adjusting based on real-world usage
  • Partner with teams across Stripe to integrate with existing design systems

  • Experience designing onboarding journeys, product demos, or other growth-related domains.

  • Experience experimenting in the world of AI
  • Bring energy and enthusiasm that inspires collaboration

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
