About Marker Learning:

Marker Learning is on a mission to help schools and parents access more affordable and accessible learning disability (e.g., dyslexia) assessments. 1 in 5 students has a learning disability such as dyslexia, which makes it harder for them to read, spell, and write--despite their intelligence. While receiving a proper evaluation for a learning disability could be the most impactful event in a student’s life, it is estimated that only 4% of students receive a diagnosis because of the high costs of evaluations and lack of access to qualified psychologists. Undiagnosed students are 3x more likely to drop out of high school, 5x more likely to be unemployed, and tend to experience elevated levels of anxiety and depression.

By leveraging proprietary technology developed by leading experts, the end-to-end Marker evaluation is completed in a fraction of the time compared to traditional assessment methods. Marker is a rapidly growing start-up backed by some of the most mission-driven and reputable venture capital firms and education non-profits.
Join us in our mission to inspire and support all students on their unique learning paths!

The Role
At Marker Learning, you’ll play a pivotal role in empowering psychologists and clinicians with innovative tools that streamline assessments, diagnoses, reporting, and evaluation management. Our mission is to drive better outcomes for students and schools by developing AI-powered solutions that harness structured and unstructured data to make the diagnostic process more efficient and insightful.

We are seeking a Principal Engineer to own our technical vision, lead architectural decision-making, and drive cross-team execution velocity. In this role, you’ll address system design challenges, improve technical workflows, and ensure alignment between execution and long-term business goals, all while shaping the future of education technology during an exciting evolution into a cutting-edge SaaS platform.

You’ll lead transformative projects, collaborating with Product Engineering, Product Management, Design, and Operations to create scalable, high-performing systems. Your efforts will revolutionize how professionals manage complex evaluations, allowing them to focus on delivering impactful care.

Join us to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students and educators while advancing your career at the intersection of technology and impactful care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and enforce a decision-making framework with clear SLAs to reduce bottlenecks.
  • Define and maintain a scalable architecture roadmap.
  • Foster cross-team collaboration and clear ownership boundaries for technical components.
  • Set best practices for microservices, databases, and system integrations.
  • Implement architectural review processes to consolidate overlapping workstreams and prevent redundancy.
  • Raise the technical bar by mentoring teams and driving cultural shifts toward prioritizing incremental execution.

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science or similar field.
  • Deep expertise in cloud architecture (GCP), containerization, and distributed systems.
  • Proven leadership in system design with 8+ years of experience.
  • Strong product intuition and ability to balance speed vs. long-term quality.
  • Experience with AI architectures, document processing pipelines, and integration strategies.
  • Track record of managing dependencies and improving developer workflows.
