The Opportunity and Role:
Community Impact and Investment is kicking off a multiyear transformation to increasingly align business strategy and social impact; launch new, different, and more holistic approaches to investing in our communities; use Capital One's volunteer time and talent in increasingly strategic ways; and use data, analytics, research, and inclusive design to inform more targeted and actionable consulting to our business partners on topics related to a broad view of financial inclusion.
We're seeking a Principal Associate to support our West and Mid-West regions. This team is charged with deeply understanding challenges and opportunities in the Mid-West geographies and bringing that market intelligence to bear to ensure we are investing in high impact programs with demonstrable outcomes and with partners to advance socioeconomic mobility in the community while maximizing impact for Capital One's reputation and business agenda. This is a team of relationship-first changemakers who build strong external relationships and distill insights, make connections and identify and execute on opportunities for Capital One to make investments at the nexus of community impact and Capital One's business strategy.
In this role, you'll be expected to demonstrate proficiency in two key areas:
Gathering Market Intelligence
- You'll conduct research and market scans to identify, analyze, and vet possible partners across a variety of community organizations including social and nonprofit organizations.
- You'll create and manage relationships to understand how Capital One shows up in our communities relative to how we are supporting community needs and moving the needle on socioeconomic mobility.
- You will work collaboratively with colleagues across CI&I to monitor and evaluate risks.
Transforming Market Intelligence Into Tangible Impact

- You'll partner closely with your market team, your peers on our analytics program team, and other business lines to write proposals for new investments.
- You'll manage and evaluate the relationships with the existing portfolio of Mid-West community partners and their associated grants. You'll ensure alignment to the investment strategy and review grant applications.
- You'll oversee and deliver reporting for your region to monitor Capital One's community presence, sentiment, and the extent to which we are mobilizing COF resources (time, talent, dollars) to the place of most compelling community need, where needed
- You'll tell the story of the investment strategy in the markets that you oversee
- You will support strategic initiatives on behalf of Market Engagement inclusive of multi-region opportunities.
An ideal candidate is:
- Impact-driven. You dream big. You desire to make the world a better place, and you get energy from working with others with similar passions to accomplish big, bold goals.
- Wired for Collaboration and Connection: You thrive in a matrixed organization because you know that together we can do better. You're obsessed with building and cultivating relationships. You love the chance to share your perspective, to hear the perspectives of others, and to figure out how teams can collaborate.
- Do-er. You're biased toward action, you try things and sometimes you fail. You can get around your own roadblocks and you remove obstacles for your team to stay focused on enterprise goals.
- Intellectually Curious, with a strong Point of View. You ask why, you explore, you're comfortable with ambiguity, you're hungry to learn and a seeker of new challenges. You use this curiosity to develop and then refine, and refine, and refine your POVs.
