Job Description:
What You'll Do
Uses vast repertoire of delivering high impact software solutions to work intuitively. Speed comes from intuition. If something breaks you know where to look. Typically does the tough parts - e.g. (re)design and spends more time documenting than coding. Actively manages and escalates risk and customer-impacting issues within the day-to-day role to management.
You will work on the full stack of in-house developed applications that help centralize & automate core business assets & controls. Focus on the front-end web UI, while lending your expertise on the back end as well. Work as a team player on a cross functional agile team, and partner with technology teams and business partners to build, improve and enhance our application over time.
How You'll Do It

  • Creates technology solutions addressing high impact business priorities. Demonstrates the ability to analyze, design, code, test and deploy solutions and product features with high quality to production. Level of technical expertise enables solutions with high complexity and depth.
  • Competent in multiple technical domains, including programming languages, security, automation, testing, and business domains. As a result, is the go-to person for many people outside of their team.
  • Participates in strategic technology decisions and understands how these decisions impact Discover as a whole.
  • Proactively identifies and mitigates issues based on intuition and experience in multiple domains. Is a thought leader amongst team members and drives problem solving to determine root cause.
  • Coaches technology communities at Discover in areas of specific technology domain, design-thinking, agile software development way of working, security, architecture and/or data engineering.
  • Diagnose opportunities for automation and efficiency in end-to-end product delivery cycle
  • Solve complex technical problems and explore new ways to bring value
  • Analyze, design, program, test, and deploy new user stories and features with high quality (security, reliability, operations) to production
  • Achieve team commitments (and influence others to do the same) by using informal leadership & highly developed communication skills
  • Oversight on design decisions and guides team to achieve key results for products assigned
  • Remediate issues using engineering principles and creates proactive design solutions for potential failures


Qualifications You'll Need
The Basics

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Informatics, Information Security, Information Technology, or related
  • 6+ years of experience in Information Technology, (Software) Engineering, or related
  • Internal applicants only: technical proficiency rating of Proficient on the Dreyfus Engineering scale.


Physical & Cognitive Requirements

  • Primarily remain in a stationary position.
  • No required movement about the work environment to complete the major responsibilities of the job.
  • Primarily performed indoors in an office setting.
  • Ability to operate office equipment such as but not limited to computer, telephone, printer, and calculator.
  • Ability to communicate verbally.; Ability to communicate in written form.


Bonus Points If You Have

  • Full-stack experience with front-end focus
  • Front-end web development with JavaScript frameworks such as React Native or JS, Redux and frontend application frameworks
  • Hands-on Python and SQL
  • Been part of an Agile engineering or development team
  • Cloud Technology - AWS, OpenShift
  • CI/CD Pipeline experience via Jenkins, Github, Nexus
  • Tech stack includes React, Node.js, Python, Kafka, Openshift, and Jenkins
  • Database experience with PostgreSQL and Snowflake
  • A desire to write tools and applications to automate work rather than do things manually
  • Experience implementing Continuous Integration and Delivery processes
  • Experience with microservices, containers, and/or Kubernetes
  • Experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scalability) on new and current systems

Compensation:
The base pay for this position generally ranges between $107,000.00 to $180,200.00. Additional incentives may be provided as part of a market competitive total compensation package. Factors, such as but not limited to, geographical location, relevant experience, education, and skill level may impact the pay for this position.
