We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Power Analyst with strong quantitative skills, with a potential to perform in junior trading role, to support our energy trading team. The ideal candidate will analyze power market data, develop forecasting models, assist in risk management, and contribute to trading strategies in wholesale electricity markets and asset optimization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Market Analysis & Forecasting:

  • Analyze power market fundamentals, including supply and demand, grid congestion, weather patterns, and regulatory changes.
  • Develop and maintain quantitative models to forecast electricity prices and load demand.
  • Monitor real-time market conditions and assess the impact on trading strategies.

Quantitative Modeling & Data Analytics:

  • Work with large datasets to identify trading opportunities and optimize decision-making.
  • Develop and enhance trading models using statistical techniques and machine learning.
  • Collaborate with data engineers to ensure high-quality data feeds for analysis and model development.

Trading Support & Junior Trading Functions:

  • Assist traders in executing trades, managing positions, and optimizing portfolios.
  • Monitor real-time pricing, bidding strategies, and power flows across various markets (e.g., markets such as ERCOT, PJM, SPP, MISO, CAISO).
  • Help develop and refine trading strategies based on quantitative insights.
  • Work with risk management teams to assess and mitigate trading risks.

Reporting & Communication:

  • Generate reports on market trends, trading performance, and risk metrics.
  • Present findings and insights to senior traders, risk managers, and executives.
  • Stay up to date with market regulations, industry news, and emerging trends.

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master’s degree in a quantitative field (Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Data Science, or related discipline).
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong proficiency in Python, R, SQL, MATLAB, or similar programming languages for data analysis and modeling.
    • Experience with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, or similar).
    • Understanding of optimization techniques, statistical modeling, and predictive analytics.
  • Power Market Knowledge:
    • Familiarity with ISO/RTO markets (ERCOT, PJM, SPP, MISO, CAISO, NYISO etc.).
    • Basic understanding of power generation, transmission, and load forecasting.
  • Trading & Risk Understanding:
    • Some exposure to energy trading, financial derivatives, or risk management.
    • Ability to interpret market data, price curves, and bid strategies.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
    • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with energy market trading platforms (e.g., ICE, CME, ETRM systems).
  • Knowledge of machine learning techniques applied to energy markets.
  • Prior experience in a power trading or analytics role is a plus.
