Elastic, the Search AI Company, enables everyone to find the answers they need in real time, using all their data, at scale — unleashing the potential of businesses and people. The Elastic Search AI Platform, used by more than 50% of the Fortune 500, brings together the precision of search and the intelligence of AI to enable everyone to accelerate the results that matter. By taking advantage of all structured and unstructured data — securing and protecting private information more effectively — Elastic’s complete, cloud-based solutions for search, security, and observability help organizations deliver on the promise of AI.

What Is The Role:

The Observability team is in charge of developing solutions that focus on application developers and engineers that run infrastructure and services supporting these applications. Elasticsearch is an efficient datastore for logs, metrics, and application traces, supporting the three pillars of observability. The Observability team builds and maintains solutions that make getting insights from this data turnkey and efficient, such as our APM, Infrastructure Monitoring, Logs, and Uptime solutions. We are creating an end-to-end experience for our users: data collection, efficient storage in Elasticsearch, data visualization, and finally what actions do we take on the insights from the data ?

As a Software Engineer, you will be part of the Hosted Services team and work with your peers, Product Management and Technical Leadership to make our Observability product the best in class ! This team empowers our users to monitor their applications running in the Cloud and in Cloud Native environments through various inputs, integrations and managed services. The team is diverse and distributed across the world, and collaborates every day over GitHub, Zoom, and Slack.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • You will contribute to the team's roadmap execution through backlog issues and bigger projects, and you will work with product management to define new features and capabilities
  • Write and review code to deliver features efficiently
  • With your team, you will take care of our products and process to make sure we apply the best standards of quality, performance and efficiency
  • Collaborate with the other teams inside and outside Observability in defining and implementing the end-to-end experience for our Observability products
  • Interact with the community and help them use and love our products
  • You will be involved in resolving Elastic customer support issues, ensuring SLAs are met
  • You will participate in 24x365 on-call scheduled rotations with your team

What You Bring Along:

  • You have acquired experience working with AWS, GCP, Azure or Cloud Native environments
  • You are comfortable writing software in Go. We are using it regularly but are also encouraged to contribute to the product codebase in Python, Java or Typescript
  • You know how to build and maintain managed services (dev, tests, performance, CI/CD, monitoring, doc...)
  • You have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and you are an amazing teammate with strong analytical, problem solving, debugging and troubleshooting skills, with ability to work in a distributed team
  • You've been in a SRE role or have SRE knowledge, which gives you an extra care of what data we should collect, how we should display it, and how our users could have the best of it
  • You stay aware of the trends of the Open Source world and the Observability market

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
