Destructoid is currently seeking a Managing Editor to lead our mission to create informative, interesting, and high-quality content for the gaming and entertainment fans of today. Destructoid has an established history of strong editorial voice, and we are looking for the right person to carry that into the future. You'll be responsible for managing day-to-day operations, working alongside senior company management on top-level editorial strategy, and mapping a clear future for the website.

Destructoid is a part of the GAMURS Group network, which prides itself on having international teams filled with passionate and dedicated members. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals experienced in journalism, editorial writing, and especially writing about the games industry. This is a leadership position where you will manage, engage with, and grow the site's staff, along with handling pitches, assignments, and ensuring high-quality articles are being published.

What you'll do:

  • Work with the Director of Content and other Gamurs staff to identify new coverage areas for Destructoid and execute strategies to build out these areas
  • Identify exciting new areas for coverage and growth, draw up plans to take advantage of them, and then work with staff to produce interesting, exciting, and competitive content
  • Manage staff performance, reviews, disciplinary actions (when needed), and time off requests
  • Assign and edit stories
  • Hire and train new writers & editors
  • Manage, implement, and improve all Destructoid staff documents, including training docs and style guides
  • Increase site traffic, as measured by Sessions and MAU growth, on an ongoing basis

What we're looking for:

  • Two or more years in a senior writing or editorial role
  • A knowledge of the gaming and entertainment industries that is demonstrably deep
  • Experience covering major game releases and live service games with various types of articles (listicles, guides, etc.)
  • Experience with project management and content planning with a view to growing baseline traffic
  • Experience growing a website with strategic and high-quality content and a firm understanding of growth strategies
  • Knowledge of AP Style
  • Familiarity with WordPress, Slack, Trello, Chartbeat, and Google Analytics
  • Existing PR and talent connections within the industry are a bonus!
