The Software Engineering Manager – Platform Engineering will lead the design, development, and management of the core platforms that power our healthcare-focused technology solutions. This role focuses on building scalable, secure, and efficient shared platforms and services that enable rapid product development and deployment across the organization. The ideal candidate combines technical expertise with strong leadership skills to foster a high-performing engineering team and ensure alignment with business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership:

    • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of platform engineers, promoting a culture of innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence.

    • Provide technical guidance to team members, ensuring adherence to best practices in platform design, development, and operations.

    • Conduct regular performance reviews, set individual and team goals, and identify growth opportunities for team members.

  • Platform Development & Management:

    • Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of shared platform components, services, and APIs used across products.

    • Ensure the platform is scalable, secure, and reliable to support the organization’s growth and evolving needs.

    • Drive the implementation of infrastructure-as-code, container orchestration, and microservices architectures.

  • Technical Oversight:

    • Collaborate with engineering teams to identify platform requirements and prioritize feature development to support product roadmaps.

    • Establish and maintain best practices for platform engineering, including CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, logging, and incident response.

    • Ensure the platform adheres to compliance and security standards, particularly for healthcare-specific regulations (e.g., HIPAA, HITRUST).

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:

    • Partner with product managers, architects, and other engineering leaders to align platform engineering efforts with organizational goals.

    • Act as a key stakeholder in architectural discussions, providing input on platform design and scalability.

    • Collaborate with DevOps, security, and operations teams to ensure seamless platform deployment and maintenance.

  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement:

    • Stay current with emerging technologies, tools, and best practices in platform engineering, cloud computing, and DevOps.

    • Drive innovation in platform capabilities, exploring opportunities to integrate advanced technologies such as AI/ML and serverless computing.

    • Continuously evaluate and improve processes, tools, and workflows to enhance team efficiency and platform reliability.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

  • Experience:

    • 7+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 2+ years in a leadership or management role.

    • Proven track record of building and managing scalable platform solutions, preferably in a healthcare or regulated industry.

    • Strong background in cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency in programming languages like Python, C#, Java, or Go.

    • Hands-on experience with containerization tools (Docker) and orchestration platforms (Kubernetes).

    • Knowledge of modern architecture patterns such as microservices, event-driven systems, and serverless computing.

    • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation), and monitoring systems (Prometheus, Grafana).

  • Soft Skills:

    • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

    • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

    • Ability to balance technical priorities with business objectives and deliver results.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with healthcare compliance standards such as HIPAA, HITRUST, or FDA regulations.

  • Experience with building multi-tenant architectures and shared platform services.

  • Knowledge of advanced data engineering practices and tools for supporting analytics and machine learning pipelines.

  • Exposure to agile development methodologies and tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence).
