The Manager - Technology must possess strong leadership and communication skills, as well as the ability to speak to both a technical and a product audience. The candidate must be able to effectively use team architects, leads, and developers of varied levels to support them on implementing solid, secure, clearly documented, and easily visualized architectural patterns and practices. The Manager - Technology applies practical knowledge of development and engineering to conceive, design, develop, test, and implement software fixes, enhancements, components, and/or new software systems and applications of moderate to high complexity. The Manager - Technology owns design and development and drives development of components through their own and subordinate engineers' work. The Manager - Technology provides technical guidance and acts as a point of escalation and technical expert. The Manager - Technology designs and develops highly scalable software systems and applications.
Primary Responsibilities :
- Partner with leadership to create short-term strategies, long-term vision roadmaps, risk mitigation, and contingency planning.
- Ensure multiple concurrent ongoing projects, sustainment, and team objectives are resourced effectively to accomplish goals.
- Meet with stakeholders, vendor partners, and customers on a recurring basis to review team priorities, execution and pertinent business/delivery updates.
- Develop and maintain productive relationships with other technology studios.
- Responsible for technical analysis, effort estimation, product and system design, evaluating architectural fit and compliance, resource schedules, delivery milestones and overall product quality.
- Lead and mentor multiple cross-functional delivery teams consisting of software engineers, application architects, quality engineers, technical product analysts and others. These teams will be a combination Cast and consultants in various locations (onshore and offshore).
- Resolve conflicts by demonstrating leadership and appropriate decision-making competencies.
- Foster an environment of inclusion, compassion, and a safe space for Cast and contractors to share their thoughts and work effectively as a team.
- Champion secure data practices and compliance with all departmental and company standards while going above and beyond to protect data for Disney and our Guests.
- Owns the design and development of software fixes, enhancements, components, capabilities, and/or new software systems and applications
- Creates protocols, documentation and tools for installation and maintenance
- Sets the architectural direction for software development projects
- Designs and develops specifications for assigned projects
- Conceives and sets the architectural direction for development projects
- Serves as a high-level technical resource and "go-to" person for less experienced developers, providing technical guidance and oversight
- Leads team members in problem analysis and issue resolution
- Recommends improvements to processes, technology, and interfaces that improve the effectiveness of the team
- Work with Product, Creative, and Technology partners to develop web applications
- Participate in team scrums and other agile process/ceremony
Required Qualifications:
- 8+ years of progressively related experience in the design, development, and delivery of highly scalable, high-volume software systems and components.
- Experience deploying and integrating with cloud-based solutions.
- Understanding of industry standards as it relates to highly available and highly scalable data pipelines.
- Experience managing teams consisting of Cast and contractors.
- Experience managing 3rd party services suppliers.
- Experience delivering software solutions using agile concepts - design, development, CI/CD, testing and deployment.
- Success at achieving sophisticated technology goals on-time and on-budget.
- Must be detail-oriented, self-organized, committed to quality and capable of tracking multiple issues simultaneously.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively to executive leadership in both business and technology roles.
- Ability to create powerful decks and deliver them effectively using strong presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience as Scrum Master, Agile Coach or Product Owner is desired.
Required Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience.
