Demo Engineering is a full-stack software engineering and DevOps team. Our work helps to articulate the Datadog vision and product value to our largest prospects, customers, and conference attendees hundreds of times every week. We make the experience of creating Datadog demos simpler, more pleasant, and more productive. Our engineering culture values pragmatism, honesty, and simplicity to solve hard problems the right way.
As the Manager for the Demo Engineering team, you will manage a team of engineers with broad skill sets, own significant chunks of demo infrastructure, help design and build systems, and shape product decisions. At times you will get hands on and help build and maintain business critical demo environments that Pre and Post Sales Engineering, Product Management, Marketing, Events, and Support uses on a daily basis around the globe. This is a rare opportunity to work across a uniquely diverse technology stack, including all three major cloud providers and all languages supported by our APM product.
At Datadog, we place value in our office culture - the relationships that it builds, the creativity it brings to the table, and the collaboration of being together. We operate as a hybrid workplace to ensure our employees can create a work-life harmony that best fits them.
What You'll Do:

  • Participate and lead in developing the roadmap and execution for Demo Engineering by collaborating with product engineering teams and sales and marketing teams
  • Coach, mentor, and challenge a team of geographically distributed engineers ensuring they deliver high quality, timely work and that they're happy, motivated, and growing
  • Define the scope for ambiguous challenges and help the team put together viable solutions for reliable, repeatable, and resilient demos, occasionally implementing them
  • Help deploy, monitor, and operate business critical infrastructure and software to power the Datadog demo environment
  • Maintain and improve the team's standards, tooling, and processes while ensuring the team consistently ships high quality code and architecture

Who You Are:

  • 5+ years experience building and operating highly available applications, knowing the details of the system from browser to microservices to cloud networking
  • 2+ years experience managing a team of engineers
  • A proactive problem solver who takes ownership of projects, even in unfamiliar technical domains, by seeking out the right expertise and resources to drive them to completion.
  • A supportive mentor who empowers engineers to take ownership, providing guidance and feedback while allowing space for independent problem-solving and learning through experience.
  • You want to work in a fast, high growth environment and you value a pragmatic approach, code simplicity and efficiency

Datadog values people from all walks of life. We understand that not everyone will meet these requirements on day one. If you're passionate about technology and want to grow these skills but don't meet all of these qualifications, we encourage you to apply.
Benefits and Growth:

  • New hire stock equity (RSUs) and employee stock purchase plan (ESPP)
  • Continuous professional development, product training, and career pathing
  • Intradepartmental mentor and buddy program for in-house networking
  • An inclusive company culture, ability to join our Community Guilds (Datadog employee resource groups)
  • Access to Inclusion Talks, our Internal panel discussions
  • Free, global mental health benefits for employees and dependents age 6+
  • Competitive global benefits

Benefits and Growth listed above may vary based on the country of your employment and the nature of your employment with Datadog.
Datadog offers a competitive salary and equity package, and may include variable compensation. Actual compensation is based on factors such as the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience. In addition, Datadog offers a wide range of best in class, comprehensive and inclusive employee benefits for this role including healthcare, dental, parental planning, and mental health benefits, a 401(k) plan and match, paid time off, fitness reimbursements, and a discounted employee stock purchase plan.

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
