The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

As a Manager of Engineering, you will manage the successful execution of committed deliverables and be the steward for technical assets within your area of responsibility. You will manage capacity planning, recruiting and onboarding of new team members, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment, and drive continuous process improvement to enhance the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the engineering team(s).
We are currently hiring engineering managers in US Retail Markets Technology with multiple openings across the Claims, Distribution, and Product domains. These roles are hybrid roles requiring managers to be in one of the following locations twice a week, Indianapolis, Seattle, Portsmouth, Columbus, Plano, or Boston.
In this role you will:
• Ensure the right technology exists to support our business investments and manage the overall cost of technology in alignment with our north star architecture.
• Provide technical expertise to stakeholders, tech management and staff.
• Participate in the development of business and/or tech vision, critical success factors and operating plans.
• Develop and communicate unit vision, strategies, objectives, key results and plans
• Hire, lead, coach, counsel, and develop team members. Define individual performance goals and co-createsdevelopment plans; ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
• Objectively assess adherence to engineering practices and goals and work with teams to ensure optimization plans are in place.
• Evaluate team and individual performance and make compensation recommendations.
• Initiate and foster business partnerships with current and potential clients, vendors and tech executives. Develop relationships that support increasing efficiency and effectiveness, and balance individual client needs with business priorities.
• Ensure quality outcomes of the teams by adhering to engineering and best practices; You will own product health including security, stability, reliability, and communication for major system incidents.
• Establish the financial plan for the unit and manages to plan.
• Manage capacity planning and strategy for hiring, managing, and deploying (capacity) staff across team(s) to enable optimal alignment to business; also responsible for sourcing strategy to meet capacity needs which could
include vendor management, offshore strategy, etc. in a cost-efficient manner.
• Be accountable for timing of execution and delivery of product outcomes along with business stakeholders & work as needed to align priorities and remove roadblocks to ensure delivery of product outcomes
• Initiate process and organizational improvement activities which enhance overall effectiveness; seeking ways to improve human resource and other management processes.
• Develop and maintain a network of industry contacts, performs or directs research on industry trends, competitors, business and tech products, and analyzes trends and makes strategic and tactical recommendations.
• Ensure system, technical, and product architectures are aligned with business objectives.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
• Bachelor`s or Master`s Degree in technical or business discipline or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in a practice relevant domain including delivering software solutions in an agile environment.
• Minimum 3 years in a leadership role managing a team.
• Able to manage complex technology development concepts, capabilities and maturity.
• Excellent communication, analytical ability, consultative, presentation and management skills, strong judgment and ability to effectively liaise with cross-functional stakeholders and optimize teams.
• Demonstrated ability to operate collaboratively and build consensus.
• In-depth knowledge of agile software delivery principles and models.
• In-depth knowledge of technology standards and guidelines
• Thorough knowledge of business functions and operations, objectives and strategies
• Knowledge of management concepts, practices and techniques
