Description

The team is looking for a data engineering leader who has a passion for driving results through dynamic teams and thrives in an environment of servant leadership and has hands-on Agile expertise. We are on an exciting Data Evolution (DEVO) journey to transform our data ecosystem to a set of modern data platforms and tools. As an , you will lead dedicated data engineering Claims teams that incorporates customer-focused data solutions, engineering excellence and standard Agile/Lean software development methodologies. In this role, you will manage and lead four Agile data engineering squads supporting our business strategies as they build and maintain business data solutions for USRM Claims business with a focus on Personal Lines. You will be responsible for overall delivery, implementing data products in this domain and partner with Product Owners and business stakeholders to ensure that the data solutions drive business value and foster a culture of data driven decision making. You will collaborate with cross department teams, data architects, application partners and solutions engineers on technology decisions to delivery high valued business solutions that are scalable, reliable, and secure.
You will manage a team of analysts and data engineers located in Boston, Portsmouth, Indianapolis, Seattle, and remote locations. This role is inside the US Retail Markets (USRM) Technology team and will report to the Director of Business Data Solutions Engineering within the Global Data Analytics and Engineering (GDAE) team.

  • Develop and maintain a strong collaborative and trusting relationship with your team and business partners, including the Product Owner (PO) leadership in the USRM Data Office.
  • Support the teams through servant leadership by providing coaching and mentoring to empower and inspire Data Engineers, Analysts and Scrum Masters.
  • Extend and scale our agile practice by partnering with coaches, leaders, and team members to review and action metrics, empower and improve team dynamics and delivery.
  • Ensure team understands the vision and objectives of the organization and how their backlog and priorities support achieving those objectives.
  • Support teams by removing risks, issues, and overall delivery impediments.
  • Partner with peer leaders to lead and support initiatives that invest in strengthening the organization as a best place to work and talent destination.
  • Own and drive partner delivery excellence for staff augment/contractor vendors; responsible and accountable for maintaining an accurate, current view of partner performance, and managing capacity planning / estimation for contractor needs.
  • Develop, maintain, and grow industry and technology expertise related to agency, strategic partnerships, and finance.
  • Ensure team understands the vision and objectives of the organization and how their backlog and priorities support achieving those objectives.
  • Participates in the development of business and/or IT vision, strategies, critical success factors and operating plans for application, unit, or portfolio.
  • Implement and influence business and IT vision and roadmaps for data solutions across the aligned functional domains
  • Advocate for technical investment features to maintain and run existing data assets and solutions in conjunction with developing new capabilities by articulating objective risks and impacts to business value
  • Evangelize data quality and security, stable and reliable systems, engineering excellence and testing practices

Qualifications

  • Bachelor`s or Master`s Degree in technical or business discipline. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 3+ years in a leadership role; demonstrated experience leading people and/or teams; directly or indirectly.
  • Generally, 5 or more years of hands-on experience developing data platforms, data tools, and/or depth of data management technologies.
  • Strong team building, change management and people management skills in a matrixed and geographically dispersed organization.
  • Experience with traditional and modern data warehousing, data lake, analytics, and reporting technologies such as AWS/Cloud, Snowflake, Informatica, Data Vault 2.0, CI/CD, BI Tools.
  • Knowledge of agile engineering practices, development methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and tools (Jira, Slack, VersionOne).
  • Requires excellent analytical ability, consultative, communication, change management, presentation and management skills, strong judgment, and ability to effectively liaise with cross functional stakeholders and optimize teams.
  • A "bar-raiser" mentality, driven to motivate and lead teams in a high performing culture talent environment and able to provide direct, candid feedback to employee.
  • Drive high-performance engineering culture, high-trust partnerships, and excellent data engineering practice.
  • Customer/business focus with ability to negotiate, facilitate and build consensus.
  • Strong process orientation with effective organizational, communication and presentation skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of IT concepts, strategies and methodologies and their application to business opportunities.



  • Experience leading multiple teams in a high-paced Agile data delivery environment (data engineers, data analysts and data product owners).
  • Experience with traditional and modern Cloud Data Warehousing, Analytics and Reporting technologies.
  • Experience and understanding of Personal Lines Claims business, application, or data.
  • Experience leading development teams through re-platform or modernization efforts.
