The Role

Step is looking for an experienced product designer who can lead the overall product, design, and UX strategy for lending products. We are a design focused consumer brand that works on physical products, digital products, and mobile apps. We're looking for someone to roll up their sleeves, lead design on individual features and make design decisions in a role with plenty of room to grow. The ideal candidate is a passionate designer who is comfortable working closely with cross-functional teams to influence product strategy and rally them around elegant, innovative mobile solutions that delight our users.

What you’ll Do

  • Design high quality interactive experiences across mobile, both iOS and Android.
  • Lead projects throughout the entire design process; from creative conception to production and release.
  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering to help define the roadmap and execute to achieve business objectives.
  • Give feedback/direction to other designers to continually push the level of quality on the team.
  • Take part in defining a design system to be used across multiple products and platforms.
  • Evaluate current processes, identify best practices, develop plans to reach goals and implement improvements.

What we’re looking for

  • Significant demonstrated experience with end-to-end (hybrid UX and UI) product design for consumer facing products.
  • High level interaction and visual design skills, with exceptional understanding of visual hierarchy, layout, typography, color theory and prototyping.
  • A craft obsessed designer who strives for quality and has an amazing attention to detail.
  • The ability to lead design for important projects with experience delegating work and giving direction to other designers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (you should be able to clearly articulate your design decisions and the logic behind them).
  • The ability to think at a high level about product strategy and vision (not just 'how it should look' but 'what we should build').
  • Experience in building and shipping applications or software (mobile/web).
  • Must have a portfolio featuring examples of design work.

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
