📍 Location: Remote or Hybrid (SF or NYC)

We’re looking for a new member of the infrastructure team at ReadMe! If you get excited by building reliable, resilient software that scales to serve millions of users, you’ll be a perfect fit.

We're a small team of humans (and one owl) working together to do big things, and we’re growing fast! That’s where you come in. Since we’re a startup, you’ll make a big impact on ReadMe both in the daily responsibilities of your role and beyond.

🦉 What we do

ReadMe helps more than 5,000 leading startups and tech companies build beautiful, personalized, and interactive developer hubs. If you’ve ever visited the developer docs for Webflow, Notion, or Nvidia, you’ve used ReadMe!

We love what we do because it’s so much more than just documentation. We’re providing tools for teams to build a better developer experience and make their products and APIs easier to use. We’ve got great support from our investors at Accel who led our Series A, and our interview process reflects the open, caring, and whimsical culture we want to maintain as we scale.

✅ What you’ll do here

  • Design and build infrastructure and tooling to make sure ReadMe’s data storage is fast, reliable, and secure.

  • Expand the tooling for our observability platform tooling to ensure that developers can make good use of logging, metrics, and alerts.

  • Add features to Deploybert — our internal automation system for deploying code to production — to support new services and expand its capabilities

  • Come up with ideas around what ReadMe’s infrastructure should look like, and communicate them to your coworkers.

  • Collaborate with other engineers and people around ReadMe. You’ll be fairly autonomous in this role, but you won’t be on an island! You’ll support and be supported by your coworkers.

💙 You'll love this job if you are...

  • A programmer with professional experience developing server-side software with Node.js or a similar language.

  • Comfortable designing production infrastructure and implementing your ideas, leveraging technologies from service providers like AWS and Cloudflare. (It would be a bonus if you’ve got experience using a tool like Terraform to build infrastructure as code, although it’s not necessary.)

  • Passionate about making products that people love.

  • Understanding that roles are flexible; willing to take on new opportunities as ReadMe grows!

🌱 How you'll grow within one month

  • Become familiar with the ReadMe team and product.

  • Become familiar with ReadMe’s current infrastructure.

  • Be involved in planning meetings for upcoming features

🪴 Within three months, you'll...

  • Begin developing infrastructure capabilities to support ReadMe’s latest projects and architecture.

  • Begin to form opinions on what ReadMe’s infrastructure will look like moving forward.

  • Pick up larger tasks with direction and support from other team members.

  • Review code written by others with confidence, applying best practices along the way.

  • Give demos of new features and services to other teams in the company

🌳 Within six months, you'll...

  • Guide internal initiatives for technical improvements to the infrastructure codebase.

  • Advise other team members on architectural decisions based on your expertise.

  • Have created a well-defined idea for what infrastructure will look like moving forward, and begun prototyping and realizing that design!

🛣️ What’s the hiring process like?

  1. We can’t wait to read your resume and (hopefully personality-filled) cover letter! Let us know what excites you about full-stack engineering, and help us get to know you better!

  2. If we think we might be a good fit for you, we’ll set up a 30 minute phone chat with Laura, our VP of Engineering. She'll tell you more about the role, and get a chance to hear about your experiences.

  3. We’ll then do a technical assessment with a couple of ReadMe engineers.

  4. Finally, we’ll invite you to an "onsite" interview conducted over Zoom! These usually take 3.5 to 5 hours including an hour break in between. We are able to be flexible with the schedule and split it up over two days if that works best for you! We start with a 15-minute get-to-know-you with the people you’ll be interviewing with, and then have you talk with people one-on-one later on.

  5. We’ll let you know how things went within a week! If it still seems like a good fit all around, we’ll extend you an offer! If not, we will update you to let you know so you aren’t left hanging.

✨ Our benefits include…

  • Unlimited PTO with a three-week minimum. 🏝

  • Fully covered medical, dental, and vision insurance for you, and your dependents. 🩺

  • A One Medical membership. 🧑‍⚕️

  • A wellness stipend for therapy of up to $350 per month for up to 6 months. 😌

  • A wellness stipend of up to $150 per month. 🏋️

  • One-to-one donation matching of up to $1,000 per year. 💸

  • Twelve weeks of paid parental leave after the birth or adoption of a child. 🐣

  • Work from home office stipend of $500. 🖥️

  • Three offsite retreats per year to get together with coworkers and plan for the quarter ahead. ✈️

  • Take a look at our handbook for more information on our benefits! 📘

At ReadMe, we’re committed to cultivating a diverse and inclusive workplace. We welcome people of all backgrounds, experiences, abilities, and perspectives. We are an equal opportunity employer and a pleasant and supportive place to work. We'd love to have you come join us here!

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
