Our Opportunity:
Chewy is looking for a highly motivated, analytical, and collaborative Financial Analyst to join our rapidly growing Advertising Finance team! Combining an understanding of finance, practical knowledge of financial statements and analytical tools, and using data to help drive decisions, this candidate will perform various financial planning and analytical reporting tasks to support key strategic decisions, drive Chewy growth, and ensure financial objectives are achieved for the fast-paced Sponsored Advertising business. The position will work cross-functionally within the advertising org by supporting a wide variety of teams (ad product, pricing, operations, ad sales, inventory, engineering, etc.), where someone with a self-starter mentality, outstanding communication, and the ability to help drive ad-hoc projects can thrive and make a meaningful impact for the high growth business. This role will focus on building advanced reporting and forecasting functions as well as analyzing business trends and providing data-driven recommendations to various business partners in a startup-type environment.
At Chewy, we believe in ownership and accountability and value creativity. We are makers and doers who thrive on the desire to drive results. We approach our mission to provide the best service, customer experience, and pet products anywhere with a dogged determination and a cheerful disposition. Sure, we work hard, but we have fun, too. Of course, that's not hard to do when you get to bring your favorite four-legged friend to the office.
What You'll Do:

  • Aid in the reporting and financial performance management frameworks for the business and help define key performance indicators to evaluate overall business performance
  • Work cross-functionally with the broader Chewy finance team, and the analytics, merchandising, product, marketing, tech, and accounting teams to fully understand the business, its customers (both vendors and end-users), and overall operations
  • Actively participate in the strategic planning, target setting, and annual/quarterly planning processes by building & updating forecast models and creating alignment between business and finance teams
  • Own financial reporting process for weekly and monthly business reviews by extracting and analyzing data from central databases using Hyperion, SQL, and Tableau
  • Coordinate the monthly close process ensuring books and records are accurately maintained in accordance with Chewy's policies and procedures
  • Optimally manage several projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Management, Economics, Data Analytics or related field
  • 0-2+ years of relevant experience (Corporate or Strategic Finance, Business Analytics, Financial Analysis, Ops/Supply Chain Finance) with a basic understanding of GAAP and a grasp of financial statements
  • Analytical and financial modeling skills, and experience in forecasting, budgeting, reporting, and variance analysis
  • Ability to think creatively, work independently, proactively problem solve, deal with ambiguity, and meet tight deadlines / prioritize changing workloads
  • Sophisticated Excel (i.e. VLOOKUP/Index Match, SUMIFS, pivot tables, etc.)
  • Experience with SQL, Tableau, or other database software/tools
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
