External Communications and Marketing Strategist

KBR Mission Technology Solutions is seeking an expert space storyteller who can synthesize complicated engineering data and solutions into compelling marketing and communications plans and collateral. This position will focus on the Science & Space business unit, which supports a variety of customers, including NASA. You’ll be part of cutting-edge storytelling that includes astronaut training, supporting Mission Control and the International Space Station from Johnson Space Center, plus an expanding civil, commercial and government sector including health.  Projects include marketing brochures, press releases, website pages, blogs, human interest stories, social media posts, advertisements, newsletters, memos, and other internal and external projects. You’ll need to be able to write clearly, quickly and effectively in multiple formats. This individual should be able to come up with detailed marketing campaigns for specific programs, in addition to a year-to-year strategy and be able to pivot and change as business priorities shift. This individual should be proactive and establish key relationships with internal stakeholders and understand business priorities. The Marketing Communications Strategist should stay on top of technology and industry trends and be able to navigate digital planning tools. We are looking for a team player who thrives on collaboration and has a growth mindset, as well as someone who can juggle multiple projects while keeping deadlines and priorities. Your expertise will be instrumental in driving our business growth and enhancing our brand reputation.  Ideal candidates will have a passion for human exploration, space and other technology advancing humanity. 

POSITION DESCRIPTION: 

  • Partner with business unit leadership and subject matter experts to develop and implement communications, both internal and external, as well as marketing strategies to ensure current and consistent messaging of services and capabilities across all multimedia channels. 

  • Write press releases, newsletters, advertisements, website stories, internal memos and other marketing collateral. 

  • Develop and implement communications and marketing plans consistent with the business unit strategy. 

  • Lead the development and maintenance of assigned business unit content marketing, website, intranet homepage and communications materials.  

  • Serve as a subject matter expert/consultant on business unit efforts as they relate to communications and marketing. 

  • Work closely with both Mission Technology Solutions and KBR Corporate Communications teams to leverage marketing communications best practices. 

  • Determine effectiveness of communications and marketing efforts, reporting on qualitative and quantitative metrics. 

  • Help develop and execute earned media placement. 

  • Provide strategic guidance for sponsorship, conference, and paid media placements. 

  • Other duties as assigned. 

  

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Bachelor's Degree required in journalism, communication, marketing, or related field required. Advanced degree in Communication, Marketing, Business, or any STEM-related disciplines preferred. 

  • Preferred candidates will have defense, aerospace, space or other relevant government experience. 

  • 5-10 years of communications, marketing, and project management experience.  

  • Skills in strategic thinking, attention to detail, and situational awareness towards marketing and communication products and deliverables.  

  • Goal-oriented, strategic thinker with excellent project management skills. 

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to support multiple projects and stakeholders under potentially conflicting deadlines. 

  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships, motivate others, and manage interpersonal situations. 

  • Must have a solid grasp of general marketing and communications principles and tools. Essential to the position are excellent oral, written and online research skills, and the ability to interact with all levels of professionals.   

  • Knowledge or experience in government, engineering, aerospace or defense contractors preferred. 

  • Proficient in digital tools and ability to use technology to execute job and collaborate with other employees - MS Office Suite, Teams, Planner and other management tools.
