Come Dream with Us at Hatch

There’s nothing like a great night’s sleep—the cozy, wrapped-up-in-a-heavy-blanket kind of sleep. The fire-crackling, curtains-drawn, DO NOT DISTURB kind of sleep. You know, the good stuff.

But here’s the thing: while 85% of people agree sleep is the key to their well-being, more than half are unsatisfied with their own. Whether it’s stress, interruptions, work, or little ones waking in the night, so many people need help getting truly restorative rest.

That’s where we come in. At Hatch, we’re on a mission to help people build better sleep habits—so they can feel more focused, energized, and present in their lives. We’ve designed best-in-class smart sleep devices, paired with science-backed sleep content, to help people unwind nightly, sleep deeply, and wake gently. More than 5 million sleepers of all ages have made space for rest with Hatch, with our baby products in 1 in 3 nurseries and our adult product, Restore, taking over nightstands (and TikTok) worldwide.

The Opportunity

Our Mobile Engineering team is growing and we're looking for a hands-on Mobile Engineer to join us in our mission to help people get their best sleep by helping build features for our mobile app and platform bringing a suite of new software and smart hardware products to market. The ideal candidate will be an experienced engineer who is passionate about using technology to solve problems for consumers. You will be working alongside a talented and systems-focused team to build our scalable platform.

This role is remote-friendly but must be based in the U.S. or Canada. Hatch is based in California, so we ask that you’re available during PST/PDT hours.

What You’ll Do

📅 Within 3 Months:

  • Through coding project(s), learn our application architecture, development process, and how we work by building and shipping features & improvements
  • Rotate amongst our 3 Pillars to learn about Hatch as a whole
  • Understand business and department goals, and develop empathy for our customers
  • Work closely with product management to scope, plan, and rapidly develop and ship features
  • Partner with management and implementation teams to learn and understand our processes
  • Collaborate with business partners to identify opportunities and areas of improvement

🚀 Within 6 Months:

  • Develop, ship medium size code project(s) to production, maintain, and optimize mobile applications
  • Lead a project from inception (helping to shape scope) to completion (shipped to production)
  • Understand and debug issues spanning app, cloud, and firmware domains in order to make system level design tradeoffs and decisions
  • Begin partnering with Product and stakeholders to help shape product scope to “Learn Faster”

✨ After 1 Year:

  • Collaborate with teams and business partners to help prioritize work efforts that will benefit our users, business partners, and stakeholders
  • Develop long-term solutions while being mindful of short-term priorities and requirements

What You’ll Bring:

  • Strong leadership skills in managing projects from inception (partnering to help define scope), dividing work for multiple engineers to work concurrently, maintaining alignment with stakeholders, ensuring a smooth rollout to production, and determining the health & success of newly shipped code
  • Desire to be close to our users through dogfooding, participating in user tests, reading & processing reviews
  • Function as a pragmatic programmer making trade-offs between ideal code and shipping timely improvements
  • Proficiency in Swift, SwiftUI, concurrency, and Swift Package Manager (modularization)
  • Experience structuring (or restructuring) a large iOS app with more than 10-20 developers
  • Experience with CI and delivery tools is a bonus. (Fastlane, TestFlight, GitHub Actions, Ruby/Python/Shell scripting)
  • Experience with RESTful APIs, JSON, async and cloud services (AWS, Google Cloud Platform, etc.)
  • Passion for exploring and hands-on with new technologies that improve our products for consumers
  • Passion for software development and architecture regardless of the platform
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
