Engineering Architect - Game Server Orchestration

As an Engineering Architect on Bungie’s Orchestration team, you bring valuable experience in creating highly available online applications to enhance our technical operations.
The Orchestration team is at the heart of Bungie’s Central Technology Online area, driving the global implementation of Bungie’s backend and game server scaling solutions. This team plays a crucial role in enabling our games to bring joy and excitement to millions of players worldwide by ensuring seamless online experiences.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, build, extend, and maintain backend architecture for scalable online applications, with a strong emphasis on SQL databases, efficiency, and reliability.
- Design, develop, and maintain Linux game server and cloud infrastructure solutions
- Build and communicate robust mental models for complex technical architecture.
- Provide knowledge, guidance, and code reviews to ensure best practices in database design and usage across the team
- Work closely with the team leads to gather technical requirements from across the company, ensuring results align with broader company objectives.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Experience designing and maintaining complex service ecosystems
- Ability to independently build and maintain robust, object-oriented code in C#
- Ability to design and implement efficient, scalable, and maintainable SQL database solutions that align with best practices in relational database design
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers of different technical and non-technical backgrounds to build features and achieve goals.
NICE-TO-HAVE SKILLS
- Familiarity with AWS APIs, services, and permissions management
- Experience with building and supporting persistent game servers
Listed below is this role's base pay range. In other locations that Bungie has approved for remote work, this pay range may be adjusted up to +/- 10% and some roles may be classified as non-exempt (hourly).
This range is determined by an array of factors, including training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and market demands. Additionally, it is subject to change and may be modified in the future.

Bellevue Pay Range
$189,000—$223,000 USD

Most Bungie full-time employees will adopt a digital first approach allowing remote work in Bungie approved locations (outside of positions identified as 100% onsite in Bellevue/Seattle, or individuals preferring a hybrid/flex environment). Prospective full-time employees who are located outside of a Bungie approved state will need to establish residency in an approved state within 45 days of their start date. Contractors will follow a digital first approach adhering to the location guidelines agreed upon by our third-party employer/vendor and Bungie. Bungie’s remote policy is subject to change at the company’s discretion.
