The Director of Supply Chain is a critical role that supports the production and build of satellites. The Director of Supply Chain is responsible for ensuring a robust supply chain that supports program and project timelines, balances business financial and technical risk positions, is in compliance with all government and business requirements, and is well positioned to evolve with new business strategy and programs.  The ideal candidate is a self-starter with the ability to mentor and motivate a team and has demonstrated experience defining and implementing a vision for a supply chain organization that evolves in tandem with the program portfolio. You will build and run a best-in-class aerospace supply chain organization that partners with engineering, production, legal, and finance to create and maintain control of contractual and technical obligations of supplier contracts. You will partner with product, business, and customer departments to understand future business and have a supply chain that is proactive and resilient to product evolution. This position is located in Tukwila, WA and reports to the VP, Production and Supply Chain.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the supply chain organization supporting programs from cradle-to-grave.
  • Support business development in pricing exercises and proposals.
  • Lead Requests for Information (RIF) and Requests for Proposals (RFP) for new component development to support the technical roadmap for satellite offerings.
  • Manage strategic and tactical purchasing, and material requirements planning.
  • Maintain a strong and diversified supplier base. Balance supplier cost, risk, quality, to support business and technical roadmap through regular supplier evaluation and selection.
  • Continuously evaluate supply chain processes for efficiency and performance. Create, monitor, and improve supply chain processes as required.
  • Analyze inventory to determine how to increase inventory turns, reduce waste, and optimize customer service.
  • Negotiate prices and terms with suppliers, vendors, or freight forwarders.
  • Manage and develop relationships with key suppliers.
  • Collaborate with the legal/contracts team to understand, negotiate, and enforce contracts.
  • Maintain supply chain in accordance with U.S. government contract requirements.
  • Represent the business and watch for business exposure and risk and keep positive control of it.
  • Provide executive status and reporting on the state of supply chain and build strategic supply chain roadmaps.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: 

  • At least eight years of supply chain management experience.
  • Over three years experience with supply chain management in the space industry.
  • Demonstrated experience managing procurements of both commercial off the shelf and complex custom-designed technical components.
  • Familiarity with U.S. government contract flow downs.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business or Supply chain or equivalent experience.
  • Able to work in our Tukwila office 4-5 days a week. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • This role does not require a clearance but must be eligible to obtain a U.S. security clearance (US Citizen).

  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Graduate degree in a relevant field of study.

The anticipated salary range for candidates in Seattle, WA is $180,000-210,000 per year. The final compensation package offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on specific background and education. BlackSky is a multi-state employer, and this pay scale may not reflect salary ranges in other states or locations outside of Seattle, WA.
