About This Role:

Join Crusoe Energy as our Director of Interconnection and take a pivotal leadership role in our ambitious growth. You will spearhead our engagement with utilities and expertly navigate the intricate landscape of interconnection processes within the ERCOT grid and other critical utility systems. Your deep technical acumen in power system studies, modeling, and regulatory frameworks, combined with your exceptional relationship-building and strategic capabilities, will be crucial in driving our success. The ideal candidate brings extensive senior-level experience collaborating with utilities and a proven history of successfully managing complex interconnection projects for both load and generation. This is a full-time position where your expertise will directly fuel Crusoe's mission to align the future of computing with climate-conscious energy solutions.

What You’ll Be Working On:

  • Cultivate Utility Partnerships: Forge and maintain robust, senior-level relationships with key individuals at ERCOT and other relevant utilities, acting as the primary point of contact to ensure seamless collaboration and clear communication.

  • Drive Interconnection Strategy and Execution: Lead the development and execution of Crusoe's interconnection strategy, strategically identifying optimal locations for load interconnection within the ERCOT grid and other utility systems.

  • Orchestrate Interconnection Processes: Expertly manage the complete interconnection application lifecycle, from initial feasibility assessments to final energization, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.

  • Negotiate Interconnection Agreements: Direct and oversee the meticulous preparation, thorough review, and effective negotiation of critical interconnection agreements.

  • Collaborate Across Teams: Coordinate effectively with internal engineering teams, external consultants, and utility partners to ensure all project milestones are achieved efficiently.

  • Apply Power System Expertise: Leverage a deep technical understanding of power system studies, including load flow, short circuit, stability, and transient analyses, to interpret complex results and provide actionable insights for interconnection strategy and risk mitigation.

  • Maintain Power System Models: Oversee the development and continuous maintenance of accurate and effective power system models.

  • Integrate Behind-the-Meter Generation: Collaborate on the strategic planning and seamless execution of behind-the-meter generation technologies, including solar, wind, gas, and battery storage.

  • Evaluate Distributed Generation Feasibility: Assess the technical and economic viability of integrating distributed generation resources, carefully considering grid impacts and optimization opportunities.

  • Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Diligently monitor and track all relevant nodal protocol revision requests (NPRRs) and regulatory developments within ERCOT and other applicable jurisdictions, ensuring Crusoe’s complete compliance with all applicable standards.

What You’ll Bring to the Team:

  • Power Systems Foundation: Possess a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a closely related field.

  • Extensive Utility Experience: Bring a minimum of 10+ years of direct experience within the electric utility industry, with a strong focus on interconnection, transmission planning, or distribution system operations.

  • Established ERCOT Relationships: Demonstrate extensive experience working directly with ERCOT and other relevant utilities, with a network of established senior-level contacts.

  • Deep Technical Understanding: Exhibit a thorough understanding of power system studies, modeling methodologies, and analytical techniques.

  • Interconnection Management Expertise: Showcase a proven track record of successfully managing complex interconnection projects specifically for load, with experience in generation interconnection being a significant asset.

  • Regulatory and Industry Knowledge: Possess a strong working knowledge of utility regulations, interconnection procedures, and industry best practices.

  • Exceptional Communication and Negotiation Skills: Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication, negotiation, and interpersonal abilities.

  • Regulatory Acumen: Proven ability to effectively track and interpret Nodal Protocol Revision Requests and other critical regulatory filings.

Bonus Points:

  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related field.

  • Direct experience with the technical and economic evaluation of behind-the-meter generation technologies and distributed energy resources.

  • Active participation in industry forums, regulatory proceedings, or relevant stakeholder groups.

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and presenting technical reports and strategic recommendations to senior leadership.

  • Familiarity with power system simulation software and tools.

  • Experience in negotiating complex commercial agreements within the energy sector.

  • Professional Engineering (PE) license.

Compensation:

Compensation will be paid as salary and will be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
