Director of Growth (Remote, United States)

Change Research conducts research to understand public opinion. We aim to democratize access to public opinion research, in order to create a world where leaders have near-constant contact with the pulse of public opinion and can make more informed decisions. As a Public Benefit Corporation, we seek to make the world more humane, scientific, and just; as a technology company, we seek to innovate and re-define what it means to measure public opinion.

In 2021, we launched Embold Research, our nonpartisan public opinion research unit focused on helping public, private, and nonprofit entities improve the communities they serve. Today, we are developing AI and tech tools to better collect, understand, and predict public opinion.

Position Summary:

We’re looking for a Director of Growth to generate and close new business, drive revenue goals, and manage accounts for Change Research and our nonpartisan business unit, Embold Research, in areas including:

  • Companies in a wide range of domains, particularly in clean energy and media
  • Non-partisan nonprofit organizations
  • Political campaigns, independent expenditures, and Democratic state parties and caucuses
  • Advocacy organizations
  • Consulting firms that work with the above

This is a chance to understand the polling and data needs of forward-thinking companies, candidates, and organizations, and to educate and inspire them on the many ways our innovative approach to polling, qualitative research, and modeling can help solve their challenges. You will report to the Head of Growth.

Your Core Responsibilities:

  • Skillfully attract, engage, and close business development and sales opportunities from within your own network and new prospects
  • Identify and reach out to past and prospective clients with thoughtful, personalized communications across various channels (email, LinkedIn, phone, in person, etc.)
  • Cultivate and maintain a roster of potential clients seeking to improve the way they understand public opinion and communicate  in support of reaching sales targets
  • Understand company product offerings and translate that knowledge into a buyer journey that solves client problems and win business
  • Meet and exceed quarterly revenue goals, with a focus on new and expansion opportunities

You will also have the opportunity to:

  • Inform the future direction of our product with feedback from customers
  • Collaborate with pollsters to manage accounts and see clients through to project conclusions, especially with an eye towards creating future opportunities
  • Assist in building a deep, nuanced understanding of our clientele and their problems; propose new and exciting ways to help drive their understanding of public opinion
  • Inform sales and marketing collateral and pricing strategy, especially with respect to new products and new lines of business
  • Attend conferences to generate new business leads

About you:

You are an experienced business development professional with a network of contacts across domains (for profit, nonprofit, and/or political). You know what these companies and organizations need and how they make strategic and budgetary decisions. You have a great track record of sales success.

  • At least 2 years’ experience in a quota-carrying sales or business development role. This may be part of 7-10 years of primarily sales or lead-generation experience in fields such as research, public affairs, campaigns, media relations, consulting, or community relations
  • Strong relationship builder, able to cultivate a strong network on behalf of the company
  • Independent self-starter who is comfortable with coaching, experimentation, and owning data-driven goals
  • Able to travel occasionally to attend conferences to build relationships and generate business leads
  • Strong communicator, both speaking and written; experience delivering proposals and grants is a plus
  • Team player with a thorough attention to detail who can track projects using various systems, customer relationship management software, and project management tools
  • Ability to think creatively, identify opportunities to solve problems for clients, while proactively anticipating client needs
  • Thrive in a data-driven environment and can strategically help potential and existing clients understand how to use polling and data to further their goals
  • Self-motivated and entrepreneurial, comfortable with working in an early-stage environment

You might have:

  • Experience in renewable energy, healthcare, education, media, politics, or related industries
  • Knowledge of polling and designing research programs
  • Experience using or selling models for marketing or voter targeting

Compensation and Work Environment:

This full-time, remote position offers a competitive base salary of $88,000-$92,000, based on experience. Additionally, you may earn approximately $62,000 by meeting your sales quotas, with opportunity for higher earnings when exceeding quota targets.

Our compensation package includes:

  • Competitive compensation package
  • Company-subsidized medical, dental, vision, and life insurance
  • Flexible paid time off, sick days, and company holidays
  • Access to pre-tax 401K retirement program
  • Fully remote work environment
  • Stipend to outfit your home office
  • Equity options in a growing company
  • Paid family leave

You must be authorized to work in the United States.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
