Gauntlet leads the field in quantitative research and optimization of DeFi economics. We manage market risk, optimize growth, and ensure economic safety for protocols facilitating most spot trading, borrowing, and lending activity across all of DeFi, protecting and optimizing the largest protocols and networks in the industry. As of April 2025, Gauntlet manages risk and incentives covering over $42 billion in customer TVL.

Gauntlet continually publishes cutting-edge research that informs our risk models, alerts, and analysis, and is among the most cited institution — including academic institutions — in terms of peer-reviewed papers addressing DeFi as a subject. We’re a Series B company with around 75 employees, operating remote-first with a home base in New York City.

Our mission is to drive adoption and understanding in the financial systems of the future. The unique challenges of decentralized systems call for innovative approaches in mechanism design, smart contract development, and financial product utilization. Gauntlet leads in advancing this knowledge, ensuring safe progression through the evolving landscape of financial innovation.

We’re seeking a DeFi Analyst who can quantify, contextualize, and communicate key market dynamics to our clients, partners, and community. This hybrid role blends on-chain data analysis, market research, and content creation—ideal for someone who lives and breathes DeFi, has strong analytical skills, and can turn data into compelling narratives.

If you’re a crypto-native researcher, DeFi trader, or content writer who has shipped content and analysis at a top protocol and written and spoken publicly about market conditions with a quantitative approach, this role is made for you. We welcome someone looking to expand their personal brand alongside Gauntlet to further DeFi.

You will analyze and report on market events with a quantitative lens. Conduct on-chain and offchain data analysis, write research (short and longform) on our products, competitors, and market conditions for both external and internal intel, and contribute to our marketing channels and comms. This includes market commentary for our newsletter, analysis of crypto/finance media inquiries, and serving as a public voice.

You will manage our DeFi analyst partner program to help curate, highlight, and expand the breadth of analysis from the researcher community about Gauntlet’s products and services. You’ll leverage your storytelling skills to create data visualizations that help everyone, from institutional capital allocators to consumers, about our offerings.

You’re capable of code-switching at the speed of on-chain narratives. This role will be responsible for expanding the Gauntlet brand through data-driven storytelling and reports to the Head of Marketing with a dotted line/mentorship to the data science team.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and report on market events
  • Produce research around a thesis or developing market narrative/meta
  • Own KPIs including earned media, engagement/reach, Gauntlet researcher community growth, and email subscriptions and engagement
  • Manage our anti-KOL army/ DeFi analyst partner program to grow a network of researchers covering Gauntlet, aligning, curating, and incentivizing independent researchers to write about Gauntlet’s products and build on our research
  • Field and respond to requests from the media for research, analysis, and insights
  • Ideate and create quantitative visualizations, turning our models, math, and data into storytelling

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in DeFi research, content, and/or data analysis
  • Fluent in data/analytics tools including but not limited to: Hex, Dune, Flipside, crypto market data APIs, DeFi Llama, Token Terminal, Nansen, Arkham, Github, Gitbook
  • Strong knowledge of tokenomics, smart contracts, ability to write complex SQL/Python queries and create data tables and visualizations, and common metrics (TVL, FDV, liquidity and risk metrics, etc.), protocol design
  • Familiarity with both EVM and non-EVM chains and infrastructure
  • You’ve worked in crypto: at a protocol, exchange, or as part of a community
  • Track record of success with a portfolio of writing, data analysis, and market commentary
  • You are terminally online, obsessed with CT and other crypto-native social channels
  • You understand DeFi and crypto culture as a member and participant
  • Extremely deep respect and knowledge of operational security best practices
  • Concise, compelling storyteller

Bonus Points

  • A true believer in the mission and crypto’s purpose in finance and beyond

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
